22 People Arrested in Multi-Agency Sweep Targeting Geylang

 




A total of 22 individuals comprising 16 men and six women, aged between 16 and 64 are currently under investigation for various offenses following a major series of multi-agency enforcement operations conducted in the vicinity of Geylang. The intensive operations spanned from September 18 to 28, 2025.

The operation was spearheaded by the Bedok Police Division and received strong support from officers across eight other agencies, underscoring a unified government effort to combat crime in the area. Participating agencies included the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), Health Sciences Authority (HSA), Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), Land Transport Authority (LTA), Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), Singapore Food Agency (SFA), and Singapore Customs. The operations aimed to clamp down on a wide array of illegal activities prevalent in Geylang, such as illegal gambling, vice activities, drug-related activities, illegal sales of health products, illegal hawking, and breaches of fire safety regulations.

Key Operations Breakdown

The enforcement effort yielded several significant outcomes across different areas of law enforcement:

1. Illegal Gambling and Drugs (September 18)

Police and ICA officers conducted an operation targeting illegal online gambling at a residential unit along Lorong 39 Geylang.

  • Arrests: Six men and one woman, aged 49 to 64, were arrested under the Gambling Control Act 2022.

  • Seizures: More than $550 in cash and gambling paraphernalia were seized.

  • Drug Offense: One of the arrested men also faced drug-related offenses.

2. Vice, Illegal Massage, and Immigration Offences (September 18–26)

A series of checks were conducted at various massage establishments and hotels by CID, Police, ICA, CNB, and SCDF officers, alongside anti-vice operations.

  • Illegal Massage: A 41-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman are under investigation for operating an illegal massage establishment along Upper Boon Keng Road under the Massage Establishments Act 2017.

  • Vice Activities: Three women, aged 36 to 39, were arrested for offences under the Women’s Charter Act 1961 for keeping or assisting in the management of a place of assignation.

  • Other Offences: Three men and one woman, aged 30 to 52, were arrested for offences under the Immigration Act 1959, Prisons Act 1933, and Penal Code 1871.

3. Illegal Health Products and E-Vaporisers (September 19–25)

Joint operations targeting illegal health products, drugs, and e-vaporiser activities were conducted by Police, HSA, ICA, and CNB.

  • Seizures: Unregistered health products, including cough syrup, with an estimated total street value of more than $27,000, along with 11 e-vaporisers, were seized.

  • Investigations: Two men, aged 33 and 42, are being investigated under the Health Products Act 2007. The 33-year-old also faces an e-vaporiser offense, while the 42-year-old man was fined on the spot for possession.

4. Illegal Mobility Devices (September 19)

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) conducted operations near Geylang Road, Sims Avenue, and Guillemard Road targeting illegally modified Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs) and Power Assisted Bicycles (PABs).

  • Investigations: Three men, aged 16 to 63, are being investigated under the Road Traffic Act 1961 and the Active Mobility Act 2017.

5. Duty-Unpaid Cigarettes (September 25)

Singapore Customs conducted an enforcement operation targeting duty-unpaid cigarettes across Geylang, Paya Lebar Square, and Geylang Serai.

  • Arrests/Fines: A 35-year-old man was arrested under the Customs Act 1960, while six other men were issued composition sums for similar offenses.

Superintendent of Police Letts Tan, Commanding Officer of Geylang Neighbourhood Police Centre, commended the inter-agency teamwork and warned that such illegal activities will not be tolerated. He assured the public that firm action will continue to be taken against those who disregard the law.

A fatal road traffic accident occurred on the morning of November 29, 2025, in northern Singapore, resulting in the death of a 39-year-old cyclist. The incident involved a public bus operated by Tower Transit.   A woman who meticulously crafted a scam using fake PayNow screenshots to obtain food and services from multiple establishments has been sentenced to one year and 11 months’ jail. Filipino national Santos-Tumalip Maria Monalyn Bagaporo, aged 33, pleaded guilty on November 13 to four charges, including cheating and theft, with three other charges taken into consideration.
