Slashing Incident at Laguna Park: 68-Year-Old Man Dies, 23-Year-Old Arrested

A serious incident occurred at a private residential development in Singapore, resulting in the death of an elderly man and the arrest of a younger man who is now being investigated for causing grievous hurt with dangerous weapons.

The police confirmed that they received a call for help at 5000C Marine Parade Road, the address of Laguna Park condominium, at approximately 12:45 pm on November 13.

Upon arrival at the scene, police officers discovered a 68-year-old man who was injured. He was found in an unconscious state and was immediately rushed to the hospital. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed receiving a call for assistance at about 1:10 pm and transporting the injured person to Changi General Hospital. Despite medical efforts, the authorities later confirmed that the 68-year-old victim died from his injuries.

Following the discovery of the injured man and a preliminary assessment of the situation, a 23-year-old man was arrested by the police. He was detained for the offense of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons. In connection with the arrest, the police confirmed that two penknives were seized as evidence.

Later that afternoon, the police presence remained significant at the condominium. Reports from the scene indicated that when media arrived around 4 pm, the 13th floor of the building had been cordoned off by police tape, suggesting the location where the confrontation or slashing incident took place. Police officers were also stationed on the 12th and 14th floors of the building to manage the scene and maintain the integrity of the investigation area.

The severity of the initial charge, voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons may be reviewed or enhanced as police investigations continue, especially given that the victim has succumbed to his injuries.

Police investigations into the circumstances leading up to the fatal attack, including the relationship between the two men and the sequence of events, are currently ongoing. Residents on the 14th floor, who were nearby, reportedly told a reporter they did not hear any commotion at the time of the incident.

A woman who meticulously crafted a scam using fake PayNow screenshots to obtain food and services from multiple establishments has been sentenced to one year and 11 months’ jail. Filipino national Santos-Tumalip Maria Monalyn Bagaporo, aged 33, pleaded guilty on November 13 to four charges, including cheating and theft, with three other charges taken into consideration. The total value of the food and services she obtained fraudulently exceeded $10,000. She would then use a photo editing application to alter the resulting transaction screenshot, making it falsely appear as if the money had been successfully sent to the restaurant or salon. In some cases, she even edited the sender details to make it look like the payments originated from different accounts. 1. House of Seafood (May 2022 – August 20...
