Massive Fire Destroys 3 Factories & 15 Vehicles in Johor

On June 20, 2025, a significant fire erupted at 12:54pm in the Kota Puteri Industrial Park near Taman Megah Ria in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The blaze rapidly swept through several facilities within the industrial area, resulting in the total destruction of three major sites: a used engine oil storage facility, a soap processing plant, and a lorry parking lot. A car wash located nearby suffered partial damage, while another unidentified unit escaped without harm. No injuries or fatalities were reported in connection with the incident.

According to Senior Fire Superintendent Rosfarawadi Ismani Ismail, Deputy Chief of State Fire and Rescue Department Zone 1, a total of 34 personnel and nine firefighting appliances from five fire stations were deployed to the scene to battle the fire. The affected area was quickly surrounded by emergency responders working to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading further within the industrial park.

The fire resulted in severe property losses. A total of 15 vehicles were destroyed in the incident. These included five tanker lorries, five motorcycles, and three cars. Superintendent Rosfarawadi confirmed that lorry drivers who were present at the depot when the fire broke out managed to escape the premises before the blaze engulfed the area, preventing any casualties.

Initial observations from workers and staff on-site suggested that the fire may have originated in the recycling and oil storage area, which contained used engine oil—a highly flammable material. However, investigations into the exact cause of the fire are ongoing and have not yet been officially concluded.

As a precautionary measure, nearby residents were temporarily evacuated while firefighting operations were underway. The evacuation was ordered to prevent exposure to smoke and any potential flare-ups as oil-based fires can be particularly hazardous and unpredictable. Residents will only be allowed to return to their homes once the area has been deemed completely safe by the relevant authorities.

Despite the intensity of the blaze, firefighters successfully contained the flames. Nevertheless, operations are ongoing to ensure complete extinguishment of the fire and to monitor for any signs of reignition. The fire team is maintaining a presence on-site to manage any residual heat or unstable debris that may pose further risk.

The fire caused widespread attention due to the industrial park's proximity to residential areas and the presence of flammable materials. Visuals captured at the scene showed massive plumes of smoke rising above the skyline and the skeletal remains of burnt lorries and factory structures. Emergency services managed traffic diversions around the area to facilitate firefighting efforts and reduce risk to the public.

The swift and coordinated response by the Fire and Rescue Department prevented the fire from spreading to other nearby factories, storage units, and buildings, minimizing the overall damage to the wider industrial zone. No businesses outside the immediate burn zone reported significant losses or disruptions at this time.

Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough post-incident review and fire safety audit of the industrial area once the site is secure. Given the presence of oil storage and flammable industrial materials, the incident underscores the importance of stringent safety compliance, routine inspections, and proper storage protocols in high-risk environments.

Residents, business operators, and workers in the area have been advised to remain vigilant and report any signs of smoke or heat to authorities while recovery operations are ongoing.

New Punggol Northshore BTO Plagued by Water Seepage and Electrical Hazards

***Update: HDB, Maincon and Consultant has came down to the unit to check. Will update on status once we have more information. A Punggol Northshore BTO homeowner, who moved into his newly renovated flat in July 2024, has voiced frustration over severe water leakage issues that have left his unit unsafe and unlivable. Water has been observed seeping from an electrical powerpoint, with puddles forming on the floor and walls showing bubbling and signs of damage from moisture. The source of the leak appears to be an external wall adjacent to the master bedroom, according to assessments by the main contractor. However, the leakage has already caused significant damage to the flat's walls and paintwork, leaving the homeowner distressed. Adding to the frustration, the main contractor advised the homeowner to avoid using the affected power switches in the living room and bedroom due to the risk of a short circuit. Despite the warning, the homeowner has no choice but to turn on the light...

Crackdown on Illegal Ride-Hailing with 4 Drivers Caught in LTA Operation

In a recent operation conducted by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, four drivers were caught and had their vehicles impounded for providing illegal ride-hailing services. These unauthorized services operated both within Singapore and across the border to Malaysia, posing significant risks to passengers. The LTA has issued a stern warning to the public, advising against using such illegal services due to the lack of proper licensing and insurance, which can leave passengers vulnerable in the event of accidents. The operation underscores LTA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and regulation of ride-hailing services in Singapore. Drivers caught offering illegal ride-hailing services without a valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Licence face severe penalties, including fines of up to $3,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both. These measures are in place to deter unlicensed operators and protect passengers from potential harm. Illegal ride-hailing services oft...
