Woman Accused of Aiding Ex-Boyfriend's Suicide and Insurance Payout Scheme

A woman named Alverna Cher is on trial in Singapore for allegedly helping her ex-boyfriend, Wee Jun Xiang, commit suicide.

It's claimed that she assisted him in using nitrogen gas to end his life and attempted to cover up the act.

Cher was also revealed to be a beneficiary in a S$1 million life insurance policy that Wee had taken out, naming her as one of the beneficiaries.

The court heard that the two had discussed making Wee's death appear natural to ensure insurance payouts.

Cher faces charges of abetting suicide and obstructing justice, with potential penalties of jail time and fines.

The trial is ongoing.
