From Schoolyard Romance to Attempted Abortion: A Shocking Story

A 14-year-old boy, who is now 18, pleaded guilty to impregnating his 15-year-old classmate and then trying to abort the fetus using methods found online. He also instigated the girl to bury the stillborn child after it was born.

The couple started dating in 2020 and had sex at the boy's home without using protection. In January 2021, the girl found out she was pregnant and concealed it from her family. They attempted various methods found online to abort the fetus but failed.

In June 2021, the girl gave birth to a stillborn son while on video call with the boy. He instructed her to cut the umbilical cord, placenta, and bury the body. The girl eventually confessed to her mother, leading to police involvement and the recovery of the body.

The boy's defense lawyers requested no reformative training report, citing his first-time offense, young age, good academic record, and supportive family. The judge ordered a probation suitability report and will sentence the boy in January.

He stressed that political parties must go beyond rhetoric, demonstrating leadership, vision, and a readiness to handle trade-offs that come with policy decisions. Responding to past WP suggestions, Tong criticised proposals to either raise taxes on multinational corporations or draw more from Singapore’s reserves instead of raising the Goods and Ser...
