Singapore Authorities Launch Successful Month-Long Enforcement Blitz, Investigating 1,394 Individuals

In a month-long island-wide enforcement blitz conducted from November 15 to December 18, 2023, Singapore's Police Force, supported by various agencies, investigated 1,394 individuals (885 men and 509 women) aged 15 to 77 for various offenses. The operation, spanning four weeks, involved more than 1,900 officers from all seven Police Land Divisions and targeted illegal and criminal activities as part of efforts to curb physical crime during year-end festivities.

The multi-agency enforcement blitz included collaboration with the Central Narcotics Bureau, Singapore Civil Defence Force, Health Sciences Authority, Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, Singapore Customs, Land Transport Authority, Ministry of Manpower, Housing & Development Board, and the Singapore Food Agency. Over 630 operations were conducted, with checks on more than 6,700 people leading to multiple arrests.

Several notable operations included a crackdown by the Central Police Division on illegal activities in Little India, Boat Quay, Bugis, and Chinatown, resulting in the arrest of 146 women and 36 men. Bedok Police Division led an operation targeting illegal activities in Geylang, arresting 18 men and 12 women. Tanglin Police Division conducted a joint enforcement operation in Orchard Road, leading to the arrest of six women and uncovering fire safety violations in two premises. Jurong Police Division's multi-agency operation at a migrant worker dormitory in Tuas resulted in the investigation of 28 men for customs-related offenses.

Woodlands Police Division, supported by ICA and JTC, conducted checks on vacant buildings in Sungei Kadut industrial estate areas, recovering suspected controlled drugs, drug paraphernalia, and knives. Clementi Police Division, CID, and HDB targeted massage establishments along Jurong East Avenue 1 and Jurong East Street 21, resulting in arrests and the discovery of unlicensed operations. Ang Mo Kio Police Division's joint operations with HSA and LTA in Serangoon Central and Sengkang led to the seizure of e-vaporisers and the impounding of a Power-Assisted bicycle.

Director of Operations Department, Senior Assistant Commissioner (SAC) Gregory Tan, expressed appreciation for agency support and commended officers for their professionalism and teamwork during the enforcement blitz. SAC Tan highlighted a 35% increase in cases involving offenses under the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 from January to October 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. He emphasized the police's commitment to upholding law and order, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any criminal or suspicious activities.

Driver Jailed After Fatal Hit-and-Run on Expressway

  A driver, Pua Yui Loon, was sentenced to three years and ten months in prison and banned from driving for ten years after causing a fatal accident on an expressway. The 28-year-old Malaysian had been speeding at least 141 km/h when he sideswiped a motorcycle, causing the 22-year-old motorcyclist, Joshua Chiam Chee Wai, to fall and die at the scene. Singaporean Fined for Fake Abduction Claim in Johor KSL Mall

  A 45-year-old Singaporean woman, Amyra Laila Ho, has been fined RM1,000 (S$307) by the Magistrate Court in Johor Bahru after pleading guilty to making a false police report. She had claimed she was nearly abducted at a shopping mall in Johor, a story that later turned out to be untrue.
