Multi-Agency Operation Targets Illicit Activities, Leads to Investigation of 62 Individuals

 

A recent series of enforcement operations conducted by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) from February 28 to March 2, 2024, has resulted in investigations against 14 men and 48 women, ranging from 21 to 75 years old, for various offences. Led by the Tanglin Police Division and supported by other agencies such as the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Ministry of Manpower (MOM), Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), and Health Sciences Authority (HSA), the operations targeted illegal activities across the city.

Highlights of the operations include:

  • Massage Establishment Crackdown: On February 28 and 29, 2024, officers from Tanglin Police Division targeted massage establishments and commercial units along Balestier Road, Orchard Road, Thomson Road, and River Valley Road. 22 women, aged between 23 and 46, were arrested under the Women’s Charter Act 1961.


  • Illegal Gambling Arrests: On February 28, an enforcement operation against illegal gambling activities in the Whampoa area led to the arrest of five men, aged between 65 and 75, under the Gambling Control Act 2022. Cash exceeding $2,300, mobile phones, and gambling-related items were seized.


  • Public Entertainment Outlet Checks: Between March 1 and 2, officers conducted checks at public entertainment outlets along Orchard Road. Arrests included women for Women’s Charter offences, individuals for Employment of Foreign Manpower Act 1990 (EFMA) violations, and suspects involved in drug offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973. Additionally, arrests were made for offences under the Societies Act 1966, Criminal Procedure Code 2010, and Tobacco (Control of Advertisements and Sale) Act.

Investigations into the 62 individuals are ongoing. SAC Cheong Chee Ming, Commander of Tanglin Police Division, emphasized the Police's commitment to maintaining public safety and collaborating with other agencies to combat illicit activities. Offenders will face legal consequences in accordance with the law.
