Singapore Police Force (SPF) apprehended a 23-year-old suspect on Monday (Mar 4) in connection with a series of loanshark harassment incidents that led to fires outside residential units in Yishun and Tampines.
The SPF received reports of fires and loanshark-related graffiti at three homes along Yishun Avenue 6, Tampines Street 41, and Tampines Street 71.
Utilizing police camera footage, authorities swiftly apprehended the suspect as he attempted to flee Tampines Street 71, within four hours of the first incident.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect had intentions of perpetrating further loanshark harassment if not apprehended.
Seized items include a bottle of petrol, a red marker, and other related paraphernalia.
The suspect is set to face charges under the Moneylenders Act 2008 in court on Wednesday. Loanshark harassment carries severe penalties, ranging from fines and imprisonment to caning, emphasizing SPF's zero-tolerance stance on such activities.
Authorities urge the public to refrain from involvement with loansharks to maintain public safety and security.
