In a recent incident on March 5, 2024, a passenger traveling from Hong Kong to Singapore discovered upon arrival at Changi Airport that USD$80,000 was missing from his bag.
Prompt investigations by the Airport Police Division, in collaboration with the Commercial Affairs Department, led to the arrest of a 54-year-old suspect.
Preliminary findings indicated that the suspect had made remittance transactions totaling S$37,897.70, suspected to be part of the stolen cash.
The man was apprehended on the same day and found in possession of S$79,662.83 in various currencies.
He will face charges of theft which carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, a fine, or both.
Commander AC M Malathi emphasized the seriousness of the offense and the commitment to passenger safety.
To prevent such incidents, travelers are advised to keep valuables with them and report suspicious behavior promptly to cabin crew.
