Singapore Police apprehended four men, aged between 33 and 53, for allegedly selling counterfeit mobile phones as part of a cheating scam.
Reports filed on April 21 and 25, 2024, revealed victims were duped into buying fake branded phones priced between $180 and $400.
These transactions occurred after the suspects claimed they needed cash and offered the phones at discounts.
The victims later confirmed the devices were counterfeit through checks at authorized retailers.
Following thorough investigations by the Clementi Police Division, the suspects were arrested on April 26, 2024, and multiple phones and accessories suspected to be fake were seized, along with their personal mobile devices.
The suspects are set to be charged on April 27, 2024, under Section 420 of the Penal Code, facing up to 10 years in prison and a fine.
The police caution the public to be wary of deals that seem too good to be true and to buy high-value items only from reputable sources.
