A 24-year-old man has been apprehended by the police for his suspected involvement in an attempted robbery incident.
The incident occurred on April 14, 2024, around 3:15 am, at a supermarket located along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 7.
Initial investigations revealed that the man entered the supermarket wielding a metal rod, placed it against the cashier's neck, and demanded money. However, the cashier did not comply with the demand, and the man subsequently left the premises.
No injuries were reported. Through thorough ground inquiries and assistance from police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division successfully identified and arrested the suspect within two hours of the incident.
A metal rod was confiscated as evidence.
The man is set to be charged in court on April 15, 2024, with the offence of attempted robbery under Section 393 of the Penal Code 1871.
If convicted, he faces a prison term of not less than 2 years and not more than 7 years, as well as caning of not less than 6 strokes.
