Man Arrested for Attempted Robbery at Choa Chu Kang Supermarket

A 24-year-old man has been apprehended by the police for his suspected involvement in an attempted robbery incident.

The incident occurred on April 14, 2024, around 3:15 am, at a supermarket located along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 7.

Initial investigations revealed that the man entered the supermarket wielding a metal rod, placed it against the cashier's neck, and demanded money. However, the cashier did not comply with the demand, and the man subsequently left the premises.

No injuries were reported. Through thorough ground inquiries and assistance from police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division successfully identified and arrested the suspect within two hours of the incident.

A metal rod was confiscated as evidence.

The man is set to be charged in court on April 15, 2024, with the offence of attempted robbery under Section 393 of the Penal Code 1871.

If convicted, he faces a prison term of not less than 2 years and not more than 7 years, as well as caning of not less than 6 strokes.

Public Transport Fare Hike, 6% Fare Increase Starting on 28/12/2024

The Public Transport Council (PTC) has approved a 6.0% fare increase for the 2024 Fare Review Exercise (FRE), set to take effect on Dec. 28, 2024 . Despite the increase, the adjustment is only a third of the maximum allowable quantum of 18.9% , with the remaining quantum deferred, supported by additional government subsidies .
