The Singapore Police Force warns about the resurgence of fake bulk order scams affecting renovation contractors, design firms, and suppliers of home improvement materials.
Since April 12, 2024, five businesses have reported losses totaling approximately $25,000 due to these scams.
Scammers, posing as customers, contact businesses to place orders for large quantities of goods, often requesting items that the business does not readily stock.
They then suggest a specific “supplier” from whom the businesses can purchase these items.
Victims are deceived by fake payment proofs into making payments to these "suppliers," who eventually become uncontactable, along with the fake customer.
The police urge businesses to remain cautious, verify their trading partners, and use tools like the ScamShield App to detect potential scams.
Businesses and individuals are encouraged to report suspicious activities to the authorities or through the Anti-Scam Helpline at 1800-722-6688 and to share information about scams to increase awareness in the community.
