On April 23, 2024, Singapore Customs officers conducted a successful operation at an industrial unit on Sungei Kadut Street 1, leading to the arrest of four individuals and the seizure of 2,952 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes.
The operation spotted suspicious activities involving a prime mover towing a fuel bowser, which was used to transport the illicit goods.
Two Singaporeans, aged 23 and 29, were caught transferring cigarettes from the bowser to a van, while a 39-year-old Malaysian prime mover driver and another 23-year-old Singaporean were also apprehended.
The total duty and GST evaded in this operation amounted to approximately $319,914.
The customs authorities have confiscated the cigarettes along with the vehicles involved, highlighting the serious penalties for dealing in duty-unpaid goods under Singapore's customs regulations.
Court proceedings are currently ongoing for the arrested individuals.
