A 33-year-old man was arrested on September 9, 2024, for suspected involvement in loanshark harassment at a residential unit on Pasir Ris Street 13. The incident occurred on August 15, 2024, at around 3:40 pm, when liquid believed to be coffee was splashed on the main door and floor, and a debtor's note was left behind.
Bedok Police Division officers identified the suspect using police camera footage. Preliminary investigations suggest the man may be involved in other loanshark harassment cases across Singapore. A mobile phone was seized as evidence.
The suspect will be charged under the Moneylenders Act 2008, which carries penalties for first-time offenders, including a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, imprisonment of up to five years, and up to six strokes of the cane.
The police urge the public to avoid associating with loansharks and report any suspicious activities by calling '999'.
