Six men, including five Chinese nationals aged between 32 and 42, and a 34-year-old Singaporean, will be charged in court on September 10, 2024, for suspected involvement in illegal cyber activities.
On September 9, around 160 police officers conducted simultaneous raids across Singapore, arresting the six men believed to be linked to a global cybercrime syndicate. Various electronic devices, cash, and cryptocurrency were seized during the raids.
The men were found with equipment and data connected to cybercrime, such as hacking tools, unauthorized data, and malware control software. They also possessed large amounts of cash and cryptocurrency, with some preparing to conduct cyber-attacks.
The five Chinese nationals face charges under the Computer Misuse Act 1993, carrying potential fines and imprisonment. The Singaporean man will be charged with abetting unauthorized access to websites, which also carries fines and jail time.
All six men will be held for further investigation, as authorities continue to explore their local and international connections. The Singapore Police emphasized their zero-tolerance policy for illegal cyber activities conducted from Singapore.
