The Police have arrested two men, aged 24 and 31, for their suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.
On September 9, 2024, at around 1.45 am, officers were alerted to an incident at a residential unit along Jurong West Street 42, where red paint was splashed on the main gate, and a debtor’s note was left behind.
Through follow-up investigations and with the help of Police camera footage, officers from the Jurong Police Division identified and arrested the two suspects on the same day.
Both men will be charged in court on September 10, 2024, under the Moneylenders Act. Loanshark harassment carries a fine of up to $50,000, mandatory imprisonment of up to five years, and up to six strokes of the cane.
The Police reiterated their zero-tolerance stance against loanshark harassment, emphasizing that those who vandalize property or disrupt public safety will be dealt with severely according to the law.
