Driver Tries to Bribe Warden for $10

A 46-year-old Chinese national driver, Guo Chuankui, attempted to avoid a parking fine by offering a $10 bribe to a parking warden. On April 4, 2023, Guo parked his company vehicle illegally on a road with double yellow lines near a construction site. When Certis Cisco Protection Services officer, Mr. Vikneswaran Kumaran, tried to issue a $70 parking ticket, Guo returned and pleaded with him to cancel it.

After multiple unsuccessful attempts to negotiate, Guo resorted to offering $10, which Mr. Vikneswaran refused. Guo placed the money on the warden’s motorcycle, but Mr. Vikneswaran reported the incident to his superior, who advised him to alert the police. Guo was arrested and later charged in court.

On October 4, 2023, Guo pleaded guilty to the corruption charge and was sentenced to three weeks in jail. Convicted of graft, he faced up to five years in jail and a fine of up to $100,000.

ICA Foils Smuggling of 42,000 Cartons of Illegal Cigarettes

Singapore's Immigration and Checkpoints Authority foiled a major smuggling attempt on August 20, 2025. Officers at the Pasir Panjang Scanning Station detected anomalies in a scanned forty-foot container declared to be carrying rubber mats. Unlicensed Massage Parlors and Vice Activities in Geylang and Jurong Busted

In Singapore, police arrested 35 individuals aged between 25 and 58 for their alleged involvement in vice-related activities. The arrests followed a series of enforcement operations conducted between November 12, 2024, and December 6, 2024. In the first operation, which took place from November 12 to December 3, officers from the Clementi Police Division, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and the Housing & Development Board (HDB) raided six establishments. These included a massage parlor and five outlets masquerading as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) clinics located along Jurong East Avenue 1 and Jurong East Street 31. During the raids, eight women aged between 34 and 49 were apprehended for allegedly offering sexual services. Public Transport Fare Hike, 6% Fare Increase Starting on 28/12/2024

The Public Transport Council (PTC) has approved a 6.0% fare increase for the 2024 Fare Review Exercise (FRE), set to take effect on Dec. 28, 2024 . Despite the increase, the adjustment is only a third of the maximum allowable quantum of 18.9% , with the remaining quantum deferred, supported by additional government subsidies . Fare Adjustments Adult commuters will see an increase of 10 cents per journey . Concession card holders, including students and seniors, will have a smaller increase of 4 cents per journey , benefiting approximately 2 million individuals . Monthly passes for frequent public transport users will remain unchanged to help commuters manage costs. To address affordability concerns, the Government will provide an additional subsidy of $250 million in 2024, on top of existing subsidies of $2 billion annually and the Bus Connectivity Enhancement Programme funding of up to $900 million over eight years.
