The Singapore Police have arrested a 37-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman for their alleged involvement in illegal telecommunication activities tied to investment scams. Between November 13 and 14, officers from the Anti-Scam Command conducted an operation targeting a syndicate offering One-Time Password (OTP) activation services using local and foreign SIM cards.
The suspects allegedly created and sold WhatsApp accounts, which were provided to overseas scam syndicates. These syndicates used the accounts to target Singapore residents in fraudulent investment schemes. The operation resulted in the seizure of over 6,800 SIM cards, 15 mobile phones, two laptops, $10,000 in cash, and two cryptocurrency e-wallets containing over 59,000 USDT.
The duo will face charges in court on November 15, 2024, under the Penal Code for abetment by conspiracy to commit cheating. If convicted, they could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine.
The Singapore Police emphasized their strict stance against scams and warned that offenders would face severe consequences.
