A 37-year-old man was hospitalized after a container fell on the forklift he was operating at the Pasir Panjang Terminal 3 on the morning of November 25, 2024.
The incident occurred at around 6:40am in the container yard, according to PSA Singapore, the port operator. Emergency responders from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were alerted at 6:55am and promptly transported the conscious operator to National University Hospital. PSA confirmed that the man is in stable condition.
A video of the accident circulating online shows a forklift lifting a container and accidentally shifting a column of five containers stacked behind it. As the forklift reverses, the column begins to topple, with the top container falling onto the forklift’s operator cabin before rolling to the ground. The video ends with the operator falling out of the heavily damaged cabin.
Another visual shows a column of four containers leaning against the front of the forklift, with its cabin tilted backwards. At least six firefighters are seen on-site, two of whom are attending to the injured man lying on the ground.
The incident highlights the risks associated with heavy equipment operations in container yards. PSA Singapore has assured that the operator is receiving the necessary care and that safety protocols are being reviewed to prevent similar accidents. Investigations into the cause of the mishap are ongoing.
This case underscores the importance of strict adherence to safety measures in such high-risk environments.
