Flamethrower Attack in Pasir Ris Park: Police Shoot Suspect!

On Nov 8, a 42-year-old man was shot and arrested in Pasir Ris Park, Singapore, after attacking police officers with an improvised flame-ejecting device. The Singapore Police Force (SPF) responded to a report at 6 am about a woman allegedly sitting on a ledge at the top of a tower within the park. When officers arrived, they found no one at the tower but soon encountered a man in a nearby hut.

As officers approached, the man activated a device that ejected flames toward them. According to the SPF, the officers warned the suspect multiple times to drop the device, but he continued advancing. With a clear threat posed to officer safety, a 30-year-old officer fired a shot, wounding the man, who was subsequently arrested.

A search revealed a knife near the suspect, which was seized along with the improvised flamethrower. Officers provided first aid, and the man was transported to the hospital, where he underwent surgery for injuries to his forearm and abdomen. A 24-year-old officer also sustained minor abrasions and received on-site treatment.

Upon further investigation, police believe the incident to be a targeted attack, with suspicions that the man himself was the one who called in the original report to lure officers. Assistant Commissioner of Police Justin Wong commended the officers for their bravery, stating, “Our officers responded decisively according to the situation and their training.” He added that the police remain resolute in protecting public safety and will confront threats with the appropriate force.

The suspect, who has a criminal record with prior offenses, also faces an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court related to a grievous hurt charge and harassment. He will be charged in court for attempted murder, an offense that carries severe penalties, including life imprisonment, caning, or up to 20 years’ imprisonment and a fine.

Police investigations are ongoing, and authorities continue to search for any connections to past incidents or additional motives. This incident has raised concerns about potential targeted violence against law enforcement, marking a rare and dangerous attack in a public park setting.

New Punggol Northshore BTO Plagued by Water Seepage and Electrical Hazards

***Update: HDB, Maincon and Consultant has came down to the unit to check. Will update on status once we have more information. A Punggol Northshore BTO homeowner, who moved into his newly renovated flat in July 2024, has voiced frustration over severe water leakage issues that have left his unit unsafe and unlivable. Water has been observed seeping from an electrical powerpoint, with puddles forming on the floor and walls showing bubbling and signs of damage from moisture. The source of the leak appears to be an external wall adjacent to the master bedroom, according to assessments by the main contractor. However, the leakage has already caused significant damage to the flat's walls and paintwork, leaving the homeowner distressed. Adding to the frustration, the main contractor advised the homeowner to avoid using the affected power switches in the living room and bedroom due to the risk of a short circuit. Despite the warning, the homeowner has no choice but to turn on the light...

Crackdown on Illegal Ride-Hailing with 4 Drivers Caught in LTA Operation

In a recent operation conducted by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, four drivers were caught and had their vehicles impounded for providing illegal ride-hailing services. These unauthorized services operated both within Singapore and across the border to Malaysia, posing significant risks to passengers. The LTA has issued a stern warning to the public, advising against using such illegal services due to the lack of proper licensing and insurance, which can leave passengers vulnerable in the event of accidents. The operation underscores LTA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and regulation of ride-hailing services in Singapore. Drivers caught offering illegal ride-hailing services without a valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Licence face severe penalties, including fines of up to $3,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both. These measures are in place to deter unlicensed operators and protect passengers from potential harm. Illegal ride-hailing services oft...
