A 40-year-old man was arrested for suspected loanshark harassment after splashing paint on the main door of a residential unit along Serangoon Avenue 4 on Nov 11, 2024. The incident occurred at around 11:20 pm and was reported to the police.
Officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division, aided by footage from police cameras and CCTV, identified the suspect and apprehended him on Nov 27, 2024. The man is set to be charged in court on Nov 28 under the Moneylenders Act 2008.
Under the law, first-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment face fines ranging from $5,000 to $50,000, imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes. The Police reiterated their zero-tolerance stance towards such activities, emphasizing that those who vandalize property or threaten public peace and security will face severe legal consequences.
Members of the public are urged to avoid loansharks and refrain from any involvement in loansharking activities. The police encourage anyone with information about loansharking to call ‘999.’
