Singapore-Hong Kong Joint Operation Busts Vice Syndicate: 14 Arrested

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) collaborated in a 17-day cross-border operation from November 4 to November 20, 2024, to crack down on vice-related activities. The joint effort led to the arrest of four men and ten women, aged 24 to 44, across 13 locations in Singapore and Hong Kong.

The operation, spearheaded by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and HKPF, targeted vice syndicates leveraging technology to operate remotely. Eight individuals were arrested as vice abettors, and six as vice workers. Among those apprehended in Singapore was a 33-year-old man suspected of running an online vice syndicate, along with three vice workers aged 24 to 31, who are under investigation. Seized items included mobile phones and vice-related paraphernalia.

Under the Women’s Charter 1961, anyone profiting knowingly from another’s prostitution can face up to seven years in prison and a fine up to S$100,000. Additionally, those using technology to facilitate prostitution with a Singapore link may face a fine of up to S$100,000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both.

Assistant Commissioner (AC) Yeo Yee Chuan, Deputy Director of CID, praised the professionalism and teamwork between SPF and HKPF. He emphasized the growing sophistication of vice syndicates and the importance of cross-border collaboration to dismantle such operations.

Chief Superintendent Simon Kwan of HKPF’s Organised Crime and Triad Bureau echoed these sentiments, lauding the successful partnership. He affirmed both forces’ dedication to combating organised crime regardless of borders.

This operation underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to tackle vice-related activities and ensure safety. SPF and HKPF will continue to take firm action against vice syndicates using advanced technologies.

However, the leakage has already caused significant damage to the flat's walls and paintwork, leaving the homeowner distressed. Adding to the frustration, the main contractor advised the homeowner to avoid using the affected power switches in the living room and bedroom due to the risk of a short circuit. Despite the warning, the homeowner has no choice but to turn on the light...

These unauthorized services operated both within Singapore and across the border to Malaysia, posing significant risks to passengers. The LTA has issued a stern warning to the public, advising against using such illegal services due to the lack of proper licensing and insurance, which can leave passengers vulnerable in the event of accidents. The operation underscores LTA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and regulation of ride-hailing services in Singapore. Drivers caught offering illegal ride-hailing services without a valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Licence face severe penalties, including fines of up to $3,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both. These measures are in place to deter unlicensed operators and protect passengers from potential harm. Illegal ride-hailing services oft...
