Six men, aged between 25 and 50, are facing charges in Singapore on November 4, 2024, in connection with separate molestation cases that took place throughout the year. In each instance, police officers intervened or, through investigations and public camera footage, managed to identify and arrest the suspects.
The cases involve various locations across Singapore. In August, a 33-year-old man was arrested for allegedly molesting a 26-year-old woman at a club on Bayfront Avenue, while in July, a 38-year-old man allegedly molested a 32-year-old woman at a coffeeshop along Jurong Gateway Road. In early July, a 25-year-old man reportedly molested a 46-year-old woman along South Bridge Road.
Additionally, a 50-year-old man is facing charges for allegedly molesting a 33-year-old woman on a public bus in June. Police investigations revealed he also misappropriated an Ezlink card, adding a charge of dishonest misappropriation of movable property.
The incidents extend to more vulnerable members of society, as seen in April when a 41-year-old man allegedly molested a 13-year-old girl in a hotel lobby on Temasek Boulevard. In January, a 35-year-old man was arrested for allegedly molesting a 43-year-old woman at a coffeeshop along Hougang Avenue 10.
Under Singapore’s Penal Code, outrage of modesty under Section 354(1) carries a possible sentence of up to three years, a fine, caning, or a combination of these penalties. The offence against a minor under Section 354(2) can result in up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine, caning, or a combination. Dishonest misappropriation of property under Section 403 is punishable by up to two years, a fine, or both.
The police issued a statement reinforcing their zero-tolerance policy toward sexual offences and committed to working with public stakeholders and the community to prevent similar crimes. They encourage public vigilance and immediate reporting of any incidents of molestation.
