Grab Delivery Rider Stabbed Over Payment Dispute in Marsiling

A 21-year-old man was arrested after allegedly stabbing a 25-year-old food delivery rider with a Swiss Army knife at Block 214 Marsiling Lane on December 22. The incident occurred around 10:35 PM, following a dispute over payment. Passers-by detained the attacker until police arrived, and he will be charged with voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons. If convicted, he faces up to seven years in jail, fines, caning, or a combination of these penalties.

The delivery rider, identified by his brother Daniel, was making a delivery when the altercation occurred. According to Daniel, the accused initially indicated he would pay S$50 in cash and instructed the rider to prepare S$33 in change. The rider suggested using PayNow for the change instead, explaining that he did not have the cash readily available. This proposal reportedly angered the accused, who responded rudely through text.

Upon arriving at the HDB block, the rider notified the accused and asked for the unit number, which had not been provided. After confirming he had the requested change, the rider once again suggested transferring the money via PayNow. Instead of replying, the accused appeared at the lift lobby holding a knife, escalating the situation.

Caught off guard, the delivery rider attempted to defend himself using his helmet, but the attacker managed to stab him in the abdomen. Despite the severe injury, the rider reportedly pinned the attacker to the ground, enduring the pain for 45 minutes until authorities arrived.

Passers-by intervened and contacted emergency services. The injured rider was taken to Woodlands Health Campus, where he is recovering. Daniel shared that his brother is stable but still traumatized by the incident.

In the aftermath, Grab confirmed that the accused has been permanently banned from the platform. The company is supporting the injured delivery rider, including assisting with his personal accident insurance claim.

Daniel and his family are appealing for witnesses and any video footage that may clarify the events leading up to the attack. They hope to gather enough evidence to assist with the insurance claim and better understand what happened during the violent encounter.
