LTA Apprehended 12 Drivers and Seizes Foreign Cars Over Unlicensed Rides at Changi

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has intensified its enforcement efforts against illegal chauffeur services, apprehending 12 drivers at Changi Airport on December 18. In a statement shared on December 19, LTA revealed that these individuals were operating without the required Public Service Vehicle Licence (PSVL) for cross-border trips. Their foreign-registered vehicles have been seized as part of the crackdown.

The offenders were found offering unauthorized transportation services within Singapore and between Singapore and Malaysia. LTA has emphasized that such services are unsafe and potentially dangerous, as they may lack proper insurance coverage, thereby putting passengers at significant risk.

This latest operation follows similar enforcement actions in August, where 14 drivers were caught for similar violations at Changi Airport. LTA continues to remind the public to avoid unlicensed transport services, highlighting the importance of safety and regulatory compliance.

According to LTA, only approved taxis with the necessary licenses are permitted to provide cross-border rides. This includes Singapore-registered taxis and Malaysian taxis authorized by Malaysia’s Land Public Transport Agency and LTA. Malaysian taxis offering cross-border services are required to have an Asean public service vehicle permit in addition to the PSVL.

Licensed Malaysian taxi drivers are only permitted to pick up or drop off passengers at the designated Ban San Street Terminal in Rochor while operating in Singapore. They are prohibited from offering point-to-point rides within the country. This measure aims to protect the livelihoods of local taxi and private hire drivers.

Those caught providing illegal hire-and-reward services face severe penalties under the law. Offenders may be fined up to $3,000, jailed for up to six months, or both. Additionally, the vehicles involved in such offenses may be forfeited.

LTA continues to maintain vigilance against such unauthorized services and has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of passengers and the fairness of the transport industry. Passengers are encouraged to use only licensed services to avoid potential risks and support lawful operations.

This series of enforcement actions underscores the importance of adhering to regulations to ensure public safety and fair competition within the transport sector.

However, the leakage has already caused significant damage to the flat's walls and paintwork, leaving the homeowner distressed. Adding to the frustration, the main contractor advised the homeowner to avoid using the affected power switches in the living room and bedroom due to the risk of a short circuit. Despite the warning, the homeowner has no choice but to turn on the light...

Drivers caught offering illegal ride-hailing services without a valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Licence face severe penalties, including fines of up to $3,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both.
