A 33-year-old man, Mohd Taufik Hashim, was charged on Dec 18 for attacking three police officers during his arrest in Clementi. He faces multiple charges, including voluntarily causing hurt to public servants, using criminal force, and failing to provide a urine sample for a drug test.
The incident occurred on Monday during anti-crime patrols near Clementi Avenue 3. Officers found Taufik in possession of suspected controlled drugs, drug paraphernalia, thread scissors, and a mobile phone allegedly belonging to someone else. When approached, Taufik turned aggressive.
He is accused of spitting twice at a sergeant’s face and uniform, punching another officer's cheek, and kicking his chest. These actions resulted in bruises, neck strain, and other injuries. Taufik also allegedly kicked a special constable sergeant, causing additional injuries.
At the time of the incident, Taufik was on a remission order following a prison sentence and caning for consuming methamphetamine. Breaching a remission order could result in an enhanced sentence.
Taufik is also being investigated for drug-related offences, possession of an offensive weapon, and fraudulent possession of property.
Under Singapore law, voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant in the line of duty can lead to up to seven years in jail, a fine, or caning. Using criminal force to deter a public servant is punishable by up to four years in jail or a fine.
