Debt Dispute Leads to Threats and Property Damage

According to preliminary investigations, the suspect claimed that the woman owed him money and had been avoiding his calls. Frustrated, he allegedly showed up at her residence, demanding repayment. The situation quickly escalated as he purportedly used a hammer to intimidate her and force a confrontation.

In his anger, he reportedly struck the door multiple times with the hammer, causing visible damage. The commotion prompted the victim to contact the police for help.

Swift Police Action and Arrest

Responding officers worked efficiently to track down the suspect, ensuring he was apprehended within hours of the report. The hammer he used was confiscated, strengthening the case against him.

Authorities have emphasized that acts of criminal intimidation, especially those involving weapons or violent threats, will be dealt with seriously.

Legal Consequences

The suspect is scheduled to be charged in court on Jan 27, 2025, for criminal intimidation, an offence that carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison, a fine, or both.

Police have reiterated their firm stance against such behavior, warning that individuals who resort to threats and violence to settle disputes will face legal consequences.

Public Warning Against Criminal Intimidation

Authorities have urged the public to seek lawful ways to resolve financial disagreements rather than resorting to intimidation or property damage. Legal avenues such as mediation or small claims court should be considered in cases of debt disputes.

The police reaffirm their commitment to maintaining public safety and will not hesitate to act against individuals who engage in criminal acts.

Drivers caught offering illegal ride-hailing services without a valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Licence face severe penalties, including fines of up to $3,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both.
