Lorry and Motorcycle Collision on BKE Claims Two Lives

A fatal accident on the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) claimed the lives of a 52-year-old motorcyclist and his 41-year-old female pillion rider early on January 21. The crash, which occurred at about 5:40 a.m., involved two lorries and caused significant traffic disruptions during the morning rush hour.

The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed that they were alerted to the incident along the BKE towards the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE), near the Kranji Expressway (KJE) exit. Despite prompt emergency response, both the motorcyclist and his pillion rider were pronounced dead at the scene. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.

A video uploaded online showed the aftermath of the collision, with a stationary white lorry in the first lane of the expressway and a motorcycle lying on its side near the lorry's rear wheels. The tragic incident not only resulted in a loss of lives but also caused significant congestion on the BKE, with traffic reportedly stretching as far back as the Woodlands Checkpoint.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) took to social media platform X at around 7:00 a.m. to advise motorists to avoid the first two lanes of the expressway. The congestion severely affected bus operations, with delays of up to 45 minutes reported for several routes.

Bus operator Tower Transit announced on Facebook that services 171, 963, and 966 experienced delays due to the traffic buildup. Service 856, heading towards Yishun, was also delayed by up to 20 minutes. Similarly, SBS Transit reported delays for services 161 and 168 along the Seletar Expressway (SLE) heading towards the BKE, as well as service 138 along Mandai Road.

By noon, public transport services had largely returned to normal, as stated in updates from SBS Transit. However, the morning commute for many was severely impacted, with commuters expressing their frustrations online.

This incident serves as a somber reminder of the risks on the road and the importance of safety for all road users. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the events leading up to the collision.

New Punggol Northshore BTO Plagued by Water Seepage and Electrical Hazards

***Update: HDB, Maincon and Consultant has came down to the unit to check. Will update on status once we have more information. A Punggol Northshore BTO homeowner, who moved into his newly renovated flat in July 2024, has voiced frustration over severe water leakage issues that have left his unit unsafe and unlivable. Water has been observed seeping from an electrical powerpoint, with puddles forming on the floor and walls showing bubbling and signs of damage from moisture. The source of the leak appears to be an external wall adjacent to the master bedroom, according to assessments by the main contractor. However, the leakage has already caused significant damage to the flat's walls and paintwork, leaving the homeowner distressed. Adding to the frustration, the main contractor advised the homeowner to avoid using the affected power switches in the living room and bedroom due to the risk of a short circuit. Despite the warning, the homeowner has no choice but to turn on the light...

Crackdown on Illegal Ride-Hailing with 4 Drivers Caught in LTA Operation

In a recent operation conducted by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, four drivers were caught and had their vehicles impounded for providing illegal ride-hailing services. These unauthorized services operated both within Singapore and across the border to Malaysia, posing significant risks to passengers. The LTA has issued a stern warning to the public, advising against using such illegal services due to the lack of proper licensing and insurance, which can leave passengers vulnerable in the event of accidents. The operation underscores LTA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and regulation of ride-hailing services in Singapore. Drivers caught offering illegal ride-hailing services without a valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Licence face severe penalties, including fines of up to $3,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both. These measures are in place to deter unlicensed operators and protect passengers from potential harm. Illegal ride-hailing services oft...
