Shocking Fatal Shooting in Johor Bahru Restaurant in Broad Daylight

A fatal shooting in Johor Bahru’s Taman Setia Indah claimed the life of a 40-year-old man at a restaurant on Jan 8. The incident occurred at approximately 12pm, prompting a local resident to alert authorities via the Malaysian Emergency Response Services 999 hotline.

According to Johor Bahru South Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, the victim was dining at the restaurant when he was shot. A medical team from Sultan Ismail Hospital later confirmed his death. Preliminary investigations are underway to identify the perpetrators, locate witnesses, and uncover the motive behind the attack.

CCTV footage from nearby premises is being examined, and police have not yet disclosed the number of shots fired. A post-mortem report is expected on Jan 9 to provide further clarity.

A witness, a workshop worker who wished to remain anonymous, recounted hearing three consecutive explosive noises before seeing a motorcycle speeding away from the scene. He initially mistook the sound for fireworks but then saw the victim lying on the ground in front of the restaurant.

An 11-second video of the aftermath, showing the victim’s body covered with a white canvas, has been circulating on social media. AC Raub urged the public to refrain from sharing the video to prevent speculation and misunderstandings.

The incident is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which covers murder. Authorities have called on anyone with information to contact the Johor Bahru South IPD hotline at 07-2182323 or visit the nearest police station.

The victim was reportedly having lunch with friends outside the restaurant when the shooting occurred. Witness accounts and video evidence are expected to aid police in piecing together the sequence of events and identifying the culprits.

The Johor Bahru South District Police emphasized their commitment to conducting a thorough investigation and assured the public that updates would be provided as new details emerge.
