Shocking Fatal Shooting in Johor Bahru Restaurant in Broad Daylight

 


A fatal shooting in Johor Bahru’s Taman Setia Indah claimed the life of a 40-year-old man at a restaurant on Jan 8. The incident occurred at approximately 12pm, prompting a local resident to alert authorities via the Malaysian Emergency Response Services 999 hotline.

According to Johor Bahru South Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, the victim was dining at the restaurant when he was shot. A medical team from Sultan Ismail Hospital later confirmed his death. Preliminary investigations are underway to identify the perpetrators, locate witnesses, and uncover the motive behind the attack.

CCTV footage from nearby premises is being examined, and police have not yet disclosed the number of shots fired. A post-mortem report is expected on Jan 9 to provide further clarity.

A witness, a workshop worker who wished to remain anonymous, recounted hearing three consecutive explosive noises before seeing a motorcycle speeding away from the scene. He initially mistook the sound for fireworks but then saw the victim lying on the ground in front of the restaurant.

An 11-second video of the aftermath, showing the victim’s body covered with a white canvas, has been circulating on social media. AC Raub urged the public to refrain from sharing the video to prevent speculation and misunderstandings.

The incident is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which covers murder. Authorities have called on anyone with information to contact the Johor Bahru South IPD hotline at 07-2182323 or visit the nearest police station.

The victim was reportedly having lunch with friends outside the restaurant when the shooting occurred. Witness accounts and video evidence are expected to aid police in piecing together the sequence of events and identifying the culprits.

The Johor Bahru South District Police emphasized their commitment to conducting a thorough investigation and assured the public that updates would be provided as new details emerge.

55-Year-Old Suspect Charged for Bukit Timah Restaurant Break-In

  On December 16, 2025, Singaporean Tang Hian Leng, 55, was charged with housebreaking and theft following an incident at the Korean fried chicken restaurant Oven & Fried Chicken, located at 16 Chun Tin Road in Bukit Timah. The alleged offence occurred on December 14, 2025, at approximately 1.14am, when  Tang is accused of breaking into and climbing through a toilet window to gain entry. He reportedly stole $155 from the establishment.   The police were notified at 11.42am that day. Through swift follow-up investigations, and by utilizing images from police cameras and CCTV, officers from the Clementi Police Division and the Police Operations Command Centre established Mr. Tang's identity. He was subsequently arrested within seven hours of the report being made. The offence of housebreaking and theft carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years imprisonment and a fine.

77-Year-Old Man Charged for Cutting Bird Trap, Allowing Three Crows to Escape

  A 77-year-old Singaporean man, Tan See Chee, was charged on Tuesday, December 16, for disrupting a National Parks Board (NParks) operation after he allegedly cut the cable ties of a crow trap, allowing three birds to escape. The incident occurred near Block 181, Lorong 4 Toa Payoh, on October 20 at about 5:50 PM. Tan is accused of mischief causing disruption to the performance of a public agency's function. Police identified him two days later using CCTV footage. The police issued a statement warning that they take a "serious view" of such acts of mischief against apparatus serving public functions. Tan informed the court he intends to plead guilty and will not engage a lawyer. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in jail, a fine, or both. His plea date is set for January.
