Father Faces Jail for Sexual Assault Intellectually Disabled Daughter

A 55-year-old man betrayed the trust of his daughter and violated the sanctity of their home by sexually assaulting her over a period of three years. The abuse began when the girl was just 11 years old and continued until she was sent to a foster home in 2022, following her parents’ separation in 2021. The assaults came to light in 2023 when the daughter confided in her foster parents, who immediately reported the matter to her child protection officer.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the victim’s identity, married his wife in 2006, and the couple had two daughters, including the victim. The family shared a bedroom with four single mattresses placed side by side. The man would sleep beside his wife, followed by their two daughters. The abuse occurred during this shared sleeping arrangement.

The first incident took place between 2018 and April 2019, when the man waited until everyone was asleep before molesting his 11-year-old daughter. He kissed her on the lips, touched her inappropriately over her clothes, and made her touch him. The child, who is intellectually disabled, did not resist verbally or physically, as she feared her father. Her fear stemmed from witnessing him physically abuse her mother in the past.

The abuse continued in December 2020, when the man sexually assaulted his daughter again while she was asleep. Around the same time, he assaulted her for the third time. On this occasion, the daughter attempted to turn her body away, but the man persisted in his actions. The repeated assaults left the girl traumatized, but she remained silent until she felt safe enough to share her experiences with her foster parents in 2023.

The foster parents promptly alerted the child protection officer, leading to the man’s arrest and subsequent court proceedings. During the trial, the prosecution revealed that the man was unaware of his daughter’s intellectual disability, which added to the complexity of the case. The prosecution is seeking a jail term of six years and five months for the man, who cannot be caned due to his age, as offenders above 50 are exempt from caning under Singapore law.

The case highlights the devastating impact of familial sexual abuse and the importance of creating safe spaces for victims to come forward. The daughter’s courage in sharing her story with her foster parents underscores the critical role of supportive caregivers in helping victims of abuse seek justice. The man’s actions not only betrayed his daughter’s trust but also shattered the sanctity of their home, leaving lasting emotional scars on the victim.

The court’s decision to impose a significant jail term reflects the gravity of the offenses and the need to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions. The case also serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and intervention in protecting vulnerable individuals, particularly children, from abuse. Authorities and caregivers must work together to identify signs of abuse and provide the necessary support for victims to heal and rebuild their lives.

As the man awaits sentencing on April 3, the case has sparked discussions about the need for stronger measures to prevent familial abuse and support victims. It also highlights the importance of educating families about the signs of abuse and the resources available for those in need. By addressing these issues, society can work towards creating a safer environment for all individuals, especially those who are most vulnerable.

Water has been observed seeping from an electrical powerpoint, with puddles forming on the floor and walls showing bubbling and signs of damage from moisture. The source of the leak appears to be an external wall adjacent to the master bedroom, according to assessments by the main contractor. However, the leakage has already caused significant damage to the flat's walls and paintwork, leaving the homeowner distressed. Adding to the frustration, the main contractor advised the homeowner to avoid using the affected power switches in the living room and bedroom due to the risk of a short circuit. Despite the warning, the homeowner has no choice but to turn on the light...

Crackdown on Illegal Ride-Hailing with 4 Drivers Caught in LTA Operation

In a recent operation conducted by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, four drivers were caught and had their vehicles impounded for providing illegal ride-hailing services. These unauthorized services operated both within Singapore and across the border to Malaysia, posing significant risks to passengers. The LTA has issued a stern warning to the public, advising against using such illegal services due to the lack of proper licensing and insurance, which can leave passengers vulnerable in the event of accidents. The operation underscores LTA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and regulation of ride-hailing services in Singapore. Drivers caught offering illegal ride-hailing services without a valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Licence face severe penalties, including fines of up to $3,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both. These measures are in place to deter unlicensed operators and protect passengers from potential harm. Illegal ride-hailing services oft...
