Police in Johor Bahru (JB) are searching for the driver of an Audi TT involved in a multi-vehicle accident on Feb 25. The vehicle reportedly collided with four cars before the driver fled the scene. Photos of the crash and the alleged driver have been widely circulated on social media, sparking public interest in the incident.
A viral Facebook post shared in a local JB group included images of a woman who was said to be behind the wheel of the Audi TT at the time of the crash. The post claimed that after the accident, a man helped the woman out of the car and quickly dragged her away, leaving the scene before authorities arrived.
Eyewitnesses also reported smelling alcohol on the woman, leading to speculation that she may have been intoxicated while driving. Additionally, the post described how loud, heavy music was blaring from her car, further fueling speculation about the circumstances leading to the crash.
Photos from the scene showed the severe damage caused by the impact. Two vehicles had their bumpers completely crushed, while the Audi TT itself was visibly damaged. Notably, the car bore a Singapore-registered license plate, adding to the intrigue surrounding the driver’s identity.
According to Johor Bahru Selatan police chief Raub Selamat, the Audi TT was traveling along Jalan Serigala towards Jalan Dato Sulaiman when it first collided with a Proton Persona. The impact caused the Audi to lose control and crash into three other cars parked along the roadside. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. However, instead of staying to address the situation, the driver disappeared and failed to file a police report.
Authorities are now urging the driver to come forward and assist with investigations. The case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959, which pertains to a driver's failure to maintain control of their vehicle.
Police have not officially confirmed whether alcohol was involved, but they are reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and witness statements. Given the Singapore-registered number plate, cross-border cooperation may be required to locate the driver if they have left Malaysia.
This incident has sparked discussions online, with many netizens expressing frustration over reckless driving and hit-and-run cases. Some have called for stricter enforcement against drivers who flee accident scenes, while others questioned whether authorities would track down the suspect given the viral nature of the case.
With ongoing investigations, police are expected to provide further updates as they work to identify and locate the Audi TT driver.
