Car Travels Against Traffic on North-South Expressway!

A shocking traffic incident was captured on video and went viral after being posted on March 13, 2025. The footage revealed a Proton Saga traveling against traffic on Malaysia’s North-South Expressway near the Tuas exit. The vehicle, moving in the wrong direction on Lane 1, nearly collided with a car ahead before coming dangerously close to another vehicle.

Inside the recording car, a female passenger could be heard screaming in terror as the oncoming Proton Saga narrowly missed their vehicle. The incident took place in a high-speed zone where the speed limit is 110 km/h, making the situation extremely dangerous. Fortunately, a major accident was avoided, but the reckless act could have led to devastating consequences.

According to the driver who recorded the video, he was heading towards Johor when he spotted the wrong-way Proton Saga approaching at high speed. Despite the imminent danger, the vehicle continued moving against traffic without stopping or attempting to correct its direction. Other motorists on the road were forced to take evasive action to avoid a collision.

It remains unclear why the Proton Saga was traveling in the wrong direction. There are several possible explanations, including driver confusion, intoxication, a medical emergency, or reckless behavior. Incidents like these are not uncommon on highways, but they are particularly dangerous due to the high speed of vehicles in such areas.

Following the video's circulation online, netizens expressed shock and concern over the incident. Many called for stricter enforcement of road safety laws and harsher penalties for reckless drivers. Some speculated that the Proton Saga driver might have been lost or confused, while others suggested that intoxication or fatigue could have played a role.

Wrong-way driving is a serious traffic offense in Malaysia. If caught, offenders face severe penalties, including heavy fines, license suspension, or even imprisonment, especially if their actions lead to an accident. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the driver has been identified or apprehended.

This incident serves as a crucial reminder for all motorists to stay vigilant on the road. Drivers are encouraged to remain alert, avoid distractions, and report reckless behavior immediately to the authorities. The quick reflexes of other motorists on the highway likely prevented a tragic accident in this case, but similar situations in the future may not have the same outcome.

As discussions about road safety continue, authorities may need to implement stricter measures to prevent such incidents. Enhanced surveillance, improved highway signages, and harsher penalties for reckless driving could help reduce the risk of wrong-way accidents.

Ultimately, the viral video serves as a stark warning about the dangers of irresponsible driving. While no injuries were reported, the potential for disaster was high. It is a reminder that road safety should never be taken lightly, and all drivers must play their part in ensuring a safe journey for everyone.

These unauthorized services operated both within Singapore and across the border to Malaysia, posing significant risks to passengers. The LTA has issued a stern warning to the public, advising against using such illegal services due to the lack of proper licensing and insurance, which can leave passengers vulnerable in the event of accidents. The operation underscores LTA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and regulation of ride-hailing services in Singapore. Drivers caught offering illegal ride-hailing services without a valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Licence face severe penalties, including fines of up to $3,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both.
