A 27-year-old Malaysian warehouse worker, Mohamad Faizat Mohd Paszul, was sentenced to a year and nine months in jail for stealing nearly $212,000 worth of goods, including 457 GoPro cameras, from his former workplace in Singapore. The thefts occurred regularly between November 2023 and May 2024 at a warehouse on Ubi Avenue 4, where Faizat worked as an operations worker.
To execute the thefts without drawing suspicion, Faizat would take items from the warehouse about two to three times a week. He placed the stolen goods in a black rubbish bag, sealed it, and left it in the warehouse’s rubbish disposal area. To avoid detection, he only retrieved the bag after his colleagues had left the premises. He then transported the stolen items to Johor, Malaysia, where he sold them to a Malaysian buyer.
Faizat used the proceeds from these illegal sales to purchase a motorcycle and furniture for his home in Malaysia. His actions went unnoticed until a stock-taking exercise revealed missing inventory. When Faizat’s employer discovered the discrepancies, suspicions arose that the theft could have been committed by an insider. A warehouse senior manager subsequently filed a police report on April 15, 2024.
Authorities launched an investigation, and while court documents did not disclose the exact method used to identify Faizat as the culprit, he was arrested four months later. The stolen goods were never recovered, and Faizat did not provide any restitution.
In court, the prosecution described how Faizat systematically carried out his thefts over several months. He had direct access to valuable stock and exploited this position for personal gain. The prosecution emphasized that his well-planned approach, as well as the significant financial loss suffered by his employer, warranted a severe sentence.
Faizat pleaded guilty to the theft charges and was sentenced on March 11, 2025, to 21 months in prison. His case highlights the vulnerabilities in warehouse security and the potential consequences of workplace theft.
