A shocking road rage incident in Bandar Teknologi Kajang, Hulu Langat, Selangor, has led to an attempted murder investigation, with police arresting an elderly couple after their SUV rammed into a lorry driver. The dramatic event, captured on dashcam footage, has since gone viral on social media.
The altercation began when a small lorry overtook a black Mazda SUV in the right lane. Instead of continuing forward, the lorry suddenly stopped in front of the SUV, blocking its path. The Mazda driver attempted to switch lanes, but the lorry moved again, cutting it off.
Frustrated, the Mazda driver reversed to reposition the car in the right lane. At that moment, the lorry driver stepped out, possibly to confront the SUV driver. However, instead of remaining stationary, the Mazda accelerated and rammed into the lorry driver, dragging him onto the road divider before fleeing the scene.
Following the incident, Kajang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof confirmed that an investigation was launched under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder. This charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison if convicted.
The case came to light when a 63-year-old woman filed a police report stating that her 42-year-old son had been hit by a car around 12 pm on February 28. She reported that he sustained multiple injuries and was unable to move. She rushed to the scene and transported him to the hospital for treatment.
Authorities obtained crucial dashcam footage from a government vehicle, which clearly showed the black SUV deliberately hitting the man after he exited his lorry. On the night of March 2, at 11:15 pm, police arrested a 73-year-old man and his 65-year-old wife to assist in investigations.
In addition to the attempted murder charge, the couple is also being investigated under Section 279 of the Penal Code for reckless driving. If convicted, they could face up to six months in jail, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
Assistant Commissioner Naazron warned that stern action will be taken against individuals who take the law into their own hands. Police are urging witnesses or anyone with additional details to come forward. Those with information can contact Inspector Mohd Hizwan Hamzah at 019-636 9835 to assist in the investigation.
