A five-day anti-drug operation carried out by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) between 7 and 11 April 2025 has resulted in the arrest of 107 individuals suspected of drug-related offences. This extensive island-wide operation saw enforcement actions in multiple areas, including Ang Mo Kio, Balestier, Bedok, Marsiling, Punggol, and Tampines.
Officers seized a significant quantity of drugs during this operation. The drugs included approximately 133 grams of methamphetamine (commonly known as 'Ice'), 78 grams of cannabis, 69 grams of heroin, 0.4 grams of ketamine, 16 tablets of ecstasy, and other drug-related items. The estimated street value of these seized substances is more than $25,400.
Among the 107 arrested was a 15-year-old student, making him the youngest suspect detained during the operation. He was arrested during a targeted raid at Marsiling.
Choa Chu Kang Drug Trafficking Case
In the early hours of 8 April 2025, CNB officers conducted a raid at a residential unit in the Choa Chu Kang area. The occupants, a 50-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman, both Singaporeans, were suspected of trafficking drugs and refused to open the door despite lawful orders. As a result, officers forced entry into the unit. Inside, they found and seized approximately 28 grams of heroin. Both individuals were arrested and investigations are ongoing.
Marsiling Family Arrested, Including 15-Year-Old Boy
On 9 April 2025, a raid was carried out at a flat located along Marsiling Road. Officers arrested four Singaporeans, including a 15-year-old male student, his 44-year-old mother, and his 42-year-old stepfather. Drug paraphernalia and small quantities of ‘Ice’ were recovered from the scene. Preliminary urine tests returned positive for all suspects. Initial investigations revealed that the teenager had obtained the drugs from his stepfather.
Chai Chee Operation: Man Threatens to Ignite Gas
Another incident occurred on 10 April 2025, when CNB officers conducted an enforcement operation at Chai Chee Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a man and his elderly mother inside the unit. The 52-year-old man resisted arrest and threatened to ignite an LPG gas cylinder in the kitchen. Due to the potential risk to life, officers from the Special Operations Command, the Crisis Negotiation Unit, and the Singapore Civil Defence Force were activated.
After a period of negotiation, the man surrendered peacefully and was arrested for both criminal intimidation and drug-related offences. A search of the unit uncovered approximately 6 grams of heroin, 0.7 grams of ‘Ice’, and various drug-related items.
Legal Context and Ongoing Investigations
According to Section 5 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973, trafficking in a controlled drug is a serious offence in Singapore. This includes offering to traffic or even preparing to traffic drugs. Individuals found guilty of trafficking more than 15 grams of diamorphine — also known as pure heroin — face the mandatory death penalty.
Investigations into all the individuals arrested during this large-scale operation are still ongoing.
The CNB reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on drug abuse and trafficking, noting that such operations aim to prevent further harm to individuals, families, and communities caused by the drug trade.
