8-Months Pregnant Woman Killed in Heartless Hit-and-Run Incident

A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded near the Menora Tunnel in Ipoh, Malaysia, on 30 March 2024, when a pregnant woman, already a victim of a road accident, was fatally run over by a passing vehicle whose driver failed to stop and render help.

The victim, 25-year-old Nur Fatihah Badrul Hisyam, was eight months pregnant when the fatal incident occurred. After being involved in an earlier road accident, she was lying injured on the road when a red SUV approached the scene at high speed.

Dashcam footage of the incident has been widely circulated online, showing several vehicles carefully navigating through the wreckage and debris scattered across both lanes. As these vehicles slowed down to avoid the accident scene, the red SUV appeared from behind, travelling at a relatively high speed.

Instead of coming to a full stop, the SUV attempted to overtake a black pickup truck on the rightmost lane. The driver only began to decelerate upon noticing a human body on the road ahead—by which time it was already too late.

The vehicle struck Nur Fatihah and dragged her several metres before speeding off from the scene without stopping to help. The tragic moment captured on video drew widespread outrage online, with many calling for justice for the young mother-to-be.

Following the incident, the Malaysian police issued a statement confirming that they are actively tracking down the driver of the red SUV involved in the hit-and-run. Authorities are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.

This case has ignited public concern over road safety and the lack of empathy shown by some drivers. The fact that the victim was already severely injured and lying helplessly on the road makes the actions of the hit-and-run driver particularly appalling. Moreover, the loss of two lives—both Nur Fatihah and her unborn child—has further magnified the gravity of the incident.

Law enforcement agencies are treating the case with urgency, as leaving the scene of an accident, especially when causing death or serious injury, is a criminal offence. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage, dashcam videos, and other forms of evidence in hopes of identifying and apprehending the driver.

Meanwhile, tributes have poured in for Nur Fatihah on social media, with friends and members of the public expressing grief and anger over the senseless loss. Many netizens have urged drivers to exercise greater caution and humanity on the roads, especially in emergencies where every second counts and help can mean the difference between life and death.

Investigations are ongoing, and police have vowed to bring the responsible driver to justice. Nur Fatihah’s family, still in mourning, is appealing for anyone with knowledge of the vehicle or driver to assist in the search. This tragedy has served as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of reckless driving and a call for accountability on the roads.

A Punggol Northshore BTO homeowner, who moved into his newly renovated flat in July 2024, has voiced frustration over severe water leakage issues that have left his unit unsafe and unlivable. Water has been observed seeping from an electrical powerpoint, with puddles forming on the floor and walls showing bubbling and signs of damage from moisture. The source of the leak appears to be an external wall adjacent to the master bedroom, according to assessments by the main contractor. However, the leakage has already caused significant damage to the flat's walls and paintwork, leaving the homeowner distressed. Adding to the frustration, the main contractor advised the homeowner to avoid using the affected power switches in the living room and bedroom due to the risk of a short circuit. Despite the warning, the homeowner has no choice but to turn on the light...

Crackdown on Illegal Ride-Hailing with 4 Drivers Caught in LTA Operation

In a recent operation conducted by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, four drivers were caught and had their vehicles impounded for providing illegal ride-hailing services. These unauthorized services operated both within Singapore and across the border to Malaysia, posing significant risks to passengers. The LTA has issued a stern warning to the public, advising against using such illegal services due to the lack of proper licensing and insurance, which can leave passengers vulnerable in the event of accidents. The operation underscores LTA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and regulation of ride-hailing services in Singapore. Drivers caught offering illegal ride-hailing services without a valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Licence face severe penalties, including fines of up to $3,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both. These measures are in place to deter unlicensed operators and protect passengers from potential harm. Illegal ride-hailing services oft...
