Justice for Megan: Couple Sentenced for Abuse and Death Cover-Up

On April 3, 2025, Foo Li Ping, 29, was sentenced to 19 years in prison for abusing her four-year-old daughter, Megan Khung, over a year, ultimately leading to her death. Her former boyfriend, Wong Shi Xiang, 38, was sentenced to 30 years in jail and 17 strokes of the cane for his role in Megan’s death and other drug-related crimes. Justice Hoo Sheau Peng strongly condemned their actions, describing them as heinous, deplorable, and violent.

Megan, a vulnerable child who relied on Foo and Wong for care, was subjected to relentless abuse. She pleaded for food, clothing, and a proper place to sleep but was ignored. Instead, Foo and Wong humiliated and tortured her, recording her suffering for their own sadistic pleasure. Megan was made to sleep in a planter box outside the master bedroom, exposed to the harsh weather. She was also deprived of food and forced to endure degrading punishments, such as wearing a soiled diaper over her head.

The abuse escalated after Megan began living with the couple full-time in September 2019. Wong frequently punched, slapped, and caned her, even teaching Foo how to inflict pain without leaving visible marks. On February 21, 2020, Wong delivered a fatal punch to Megan’s stomach, and she died the next day. Instead of seeking medical help, the couple concealed her death and continued to show complete disregard for her dignity.

To cover up their crime, Foo and Wong, along with their friend Nouvelle Chua Ruoshi, devised a plan to dispose of Megan’s body. On May 8, 2020, they burned her remains in a barrel, leaving no trace of her existence. Megan’s disappearance only came to light after her biological father, Khung Wei Nan, also known as Simonboy, filed a police report on July 20, 2020, expressing concerns over her whereabouts.

Foo pleaded guilty to three charges, including child abuse and disposing of a corpse, with an additional charge taken into consideration. Wong admitted to culpable homicide, drug trafficking, and other crimes, with 11 more charges factored in. The prosecution sought a jail term of 15 to 20 years for Foo, while her defense lawyers argued for a lighter sentence of no more than 11 years. Wong’s lawyers requested 20 to 22 years in jail and 11 strokes of the cane, but the prosecution pushed for up to 30 years and 17 strokes.

During sentencing, Justice Hoo rejected Foo’s claims of being trapped in an abusive relationship, stating that it did not absolve her of responsibility. She emphasized that Foo, as Megan’s mother, had the duty to protect her but instead chose to betray her trust. The judge also dismissed Wong’s attempts to downplay his crimes, stating that his drug use only worsened his culpability.

The court ruled that both Foo and Wong deserved severe punishments for their crimes. Justice Hoo highlighted the need for harsh penalties in cases where caregivers subject children to extreme abuse, stating that the sentences reflect society’s strong disapproval of such conduct.

After the sentencing, Foo had a brief exchange with her mother, apologizing in Mandarin. Her mother urged her to become a better person. When approached by reporters, she declined to comment, stating that there was nothing left to say after the court’s decision.

A Punggol Northshore BTO homeowner, who moved into his newly renovated flat in July 2024, has voiced frustration over severe water leakage issues that have left his unit unsafe and unlivable. Water has been observed seeping from an electrical powerpoint, with puddles forming on the floor and walls showing bubbling and signs of damage from moisture. The source of the leak appears to be an external wall adjacent to the master bedroom, according to assessments by the main contractor. However, the leakage has already caused significant damage to the flat's walls and paintwork, leaving the homeowner distressed. Adding to the frustration, the main contractor advised the homeowner to avoid using the affected power switches in the living room and bedroom due to the risk of a short circuit. Despite the warning, the homeowner has no choice but to turn on the light...

Crackdown on Illegal Ride-Hailing with 4 Drivers Caught in LTA Operation

In a recent operation conducted by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, four drivers were caught and had their vehicles impounded for providing illegal ride-hailing services. These unauthorized services operated both within Singapore and across the border to Malaysia, posing significant risks to passengers. The LTA has issued a stern warning to the public, advising against using such illegal services due to the lack of proper licensing and insurance, which can leave passengers vulnerable in the event of accidents. The operation underscores LTA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and regulation of ride-hailing services in Singapore. Drivers caught offering illegal ride-hailing services without a valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Licence face severe penalties, including fines of up to $3,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both. These measures are in place to deter unlicensed operators and protect passengers from potential harm. Illegal ride-hailing services oft...
