A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a case of attempted armed robbery with hurt that took place along Tampines Street 22. The incident occurred on May 12 at around 1.30pm and involved two victims — a woman aged 82 and another aged 30.
According to a police statement issued on May 13, preliminary investigations revealed that the man had approached the two female victims and demanded that they hand over their valuables. When they did not comply, he allegedly assaulted both women with a metal rod.
As a result of the attack, both victims sustained injuries. They were conscious when taken to the hospital for medical attention.
Following the report lodged about the incident, officers from the Bedok Police Division swiftly began investigations. Within three hours of the report being made, the suspect was located and arrested. The metal rod believed to have been used in the attack was recovered and seized as part of the case evidence.
The man is expected to be charged in court on May 14 for the offence of attempted armed robbery with hurt under Section 393 read with Section 397 of the Penal Code. If convicted, he faces a jail term of between five and 20 years and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
The police have reiterated their firm stance against acts of violence, particularly those involving weapons. They assured the public that serious offences like armed robbery will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.
