Carousell Watch Listings Lead to Armed Robbery Attempts, 4 Teens Arrested

Four male teenagers aged between 17 and 19 have been arrested by the Singapore Police Force in connection with two attempted robbery cases involving luxury watch sellers. These incidents took place at Block 432 Clementi Avenue 3 on consecutive days, leading to swift arrests and charges for some of the suspects.

The first reported case occurred on May 29, 2025. The police received a call for assistance around 1.44pm. The victim had posted a luxury watch for sale on Carousell and had arranged to meet the buyers in person at the aforementioned HDB block. During the meeting, two teenagers attempted to rob the victim. One of them carried a knife and tried to cover the victim’s head with a plastic bag, possibly in an attempt to subdue or disorient the individual.

The victim managed to break free and immediately called for police assistance. Officers from the Singapore Police Force acted swiftly, identifying and arresting both suspects later that same day. Authorities were also able to recover the knife that was used, which had been previously discarded.

Subsequent investigations revealed that these two teens, together with two other individuals, were involved in a similar robbery attempt just one day prior at the same location. In the earlier incident, another victim had also arranged to meet a potential buyer through Carousell to sell a luxury watch. However, upon arriving at the meeting point, the victim sensed something was amiss and left the area before the robbery could take place.

Based on this information, the police apprehended the other two teenagers on May 29 as well.

Legal proceedings are underway. The two suspects involved in the May 29 attempted armed robbery are scheduled to be charged in court on May 31, 2025. One of the two teenagers involved in the earlier incident on May 28 will be charged with attempted robbery, while the other is under investigation for suspected involvement in a criminal conspiracy to commit robbery.

Under Singapore law, individuals convicted of attempted armed robbery face a prison sentence of between two and seven years, along with at least 12 strokes of the cane. Those convicted of attempted robbery may also be imprisoned for two to seven years, but face a minimum of six strokes of the cane.

The police have issued a public advisory urging citizens to exercise caution when arranging face-to-face transactions, especially those involving high-value items like luxury watches. Buyers and sellers should avoid secluded meeting locations and remain alert throughout the interaction. The authorities stressed the importance of reporting suspicious behaviour immediately to prevent becoming victims of crime.

This case highlights the risks associated with second-hand transactions and online marketplaces, especially when meeting unknown individuals in person. The swift response by the police in apprehending all four suspects has been crucial in preventing further incidents and ensuring public safety in the Clementi neighbourhood.

A Punggol Northshore BTO homeowner, who moved into his newly renovated flat in July 2024, has voiced frustration over severe water leakage issues that have left his unit unsafe and unlivable. Water has been observed seeping from an electrical powerpoint, with puddles forming on the floor and walls showing bubbling and signs of damage from moisture. The source of the leak appears to be an external wall adjacent to the master bedroom, according to assessments by the main contractor. However, the leakage has already caused significant damage to the flat's walls and paintwork, leaving the homeowner distressed. Adding to the frustration, the main contractor advised the homeowner to avoid using the affected power switches in the living room and bedroom due to the risk of a short circuit. Despite the warning, the homeowner has no choice but to turn on the light...

Crackdown on Illegal Ride-Hailing with 4 Drivers Caught in LTA Operation

In a recent operation conducted by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, four drivers were caught and had their vehicles impounded for providing illegal ride-hailing services. These unauthorized services operated both within Singapore and across the border to Malaysia, posing significant risks to passengers. The LTA has issued a stern warning to the public, advising against using such illegal services due to the lack of proper licensing and insurance, which can leave passengers vulnerable in the event of accidents. The operation underscores LTA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and regulation of ride-hailing services in Singapore. Drivers caught offering illegal ride-hailing services without a valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Licence face severe penalties, including fines of up to $3,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both. These measures are in place to deter unlicensed operators and protect passengers from potential harm. Illegal ride-hailing services oft...
