On May 16, 2025, a Singaporean couple was found dead in a homestay located in Taman Datuk Harun, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The deceased were identified as 42-year-old Xie Jinde and his 33-year-old wife, Zhuang Shuyi. Malaysian police confirmed that the couple were legally married and both held Singaporean citizenship.
The discovery was made when the homestay staff noticed a foul odor emanating from the room the couple had rented. Upon investigation, the staff found the couple lying motionless on the bed. The room's windows were sealed with adhesive tape and plastic bags, and there were signs of charcoal burning, indicating a possible suicide. Police also found traces of what appeared to be ketamine in the room.
Further investigations revealed that Xie Jinde was under criminal investigation in Malaysia for allegedly attempting to rape a 13-year-old girl. The incident reportedly occurred in Puchong, where Xie was renting a unit. He was caught in the act by the girl's family, who then assaulted him and handed him over to the police. Xie was scheduled to meet with the investigating officer on May 14, 2025, but failed to appear despite multiple attempts by the police to contact him.
Additionally, reports indicated that Xie had been previously arrested in August 2024 for allegedly posting prostitution advertisements on adult websites. During that arrest, police confiscated several luxury cars and electronic devices from him. Investigations uncovered multiple pornographic videos on his devices. Xie was facing charges related to prostitution, dishonest concealment of property, and possession of obscene materials.
The couple had checked into the homestay on May 11, 2025, and were scheduled to check out on May 16. During their stay, they were seen driving a blue Maserati and appeared to be in good spirits, even purchasing a cake on one occasion. Their behavior did not raise any suspicions among the locals.
The case has garnered significant attention, highlighting issues related to mental health and the importance of seeking help during times of distress. Authorities urge individuals facing difficulties to reach out to support services and hotlines available in their communities.
