17-Year-Old Student Kills Mother and Brother in Melaka Over Academic Pressure

In a tragic and shocking case from Melaka, Malaysia, police have identified a 17-year-old male student as the main suspect in the brutal murder of his mother and older brother. The incident took place at a home in Taman Rambai Mutiara, Bukit Rambai, during the early hours of June 12, 2025.

According to Melaka state police chief, Deputy Commissioner Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar, preliminary investigations suggest that the teenager allegedly stabbed his 51-year-old mother multiple times while she was asleep in her bedroom. When the victim’s 21-year-old eldest son rushed to her aid upon hearing the commotion, he was also stabbed fatally. Both mother and son died at the scene due to the severity of their injuries.

The suspect also allegedly attacked his 13-year-old younger brother, who survived the assault but remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Melaka Hospital.

Police arrived at the house following a report and discovered the lifeless bodies of the woman and her eldest son lying in pools of blood. The suspect was found calmly sitting on the porch of the house when officers arrived.

Datuk Dzulkhairi revealed that initial claims made by the teenager suggested the family had been victims of a robbery. However, upon reviewing CCTV footage and conducting a detailed investigation, police ruled out this possibility. The evidence pointed to premeditated intent, and the suspect was promptly arrested at the scene.

A 20cm pen knife believed to be the murder weapon was recovered from the suspect’s school bag within the premises. Further investigation uncovered that the suspect had purchased the knife several days before the incident, indicating premeditation.

The motive behind the attack appears to be revenge. Investigators believe the teenager was resentful over his mother’s repeated insistence that he perform well academically. The mother, a local primary school teacher and single parent, had allegedly pressured him to study hard and achieve high marks. Neighbours reportedly heard regular arguments between the suspect, his mother, and his siblings about his studies.

Mr Dzulkhairi said the murder is believed to have occurred at around 5am. After carrying out the attack, the suspect remained at the house until police arrived. When questioned, he initially fabricated a story about a robbery, but this was quickly debunked.

The police have since confirmed that the case is being treated as a double murder with the motive being revenge stemming from academic pressure. The suspect’s attack on his younger sibling, who is still fighting for his life in hospital, further adds to the gravity of the situation.

The police have classified the case as resolved, with the motive established and the weapon recovered. Investigations are still ongoing to build the full case file for prosecution.

This incident has left the local community in shock, with many expressing sorrow over the tragedy and concern about the mental health pressures faced by students. As more details emerge, questions are being raised about the suspect’s mental state, upbringing, and the pressures imposed on youth in the name of academic success.

The police are continuing to examine the suspect's background, and he is expected to be charged soon in connection with the murders and assault. The case is being investigated under Malaysia’s criminal laws related to murder and grievous bodily harm.

However, the leakage has already caused significant damage to the flat's walls and paintwork, leaving the homeowner distressed. Adding to the frustration, the main contractor advised the homeowner to avoid using the affected power switches in the living room and bedroom due to the risk of a short circuit. Despite the warning, the homeowner has no choice but to turn on the light...

Crackdown on Illegal Ride-Hailing with 4 Drivers Caught in LTA Operation

In a recent operation conducted by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, four drivers were caught and had their vehicles impounded for providing illegal ride-hailing services. These unauthorized services operated both within Singapore and across the border to Malaysia, posing significant risks to passengers. The LTA has issued a stern warning to the public, advising against using such illegal services due to the lack of proper licensing and insurance, which can leave passengers vulnerable in the event of accidents. The operation underscores LTA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and regulation of ride-hailing services in Singapore. Drivers caught offering illegal ride-hailing services without a valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Licence face severe penalties, including fines of up to $3,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both.
