Driver Abandons Car in Tanjong Pagar Accident

On June 26, 2025, a hit-and-run incident involving three vehicles occurred at the junction of Tanjong Pagar Road and Cook Street, resulting in two individuals being hospitalized and a driver fleeing the scene. The accident, which took place at approximately 6:30pm, involved two private vehicles and a blue taxi.

According to eyewitness accounts, the accident unfolded when the driver of a white car collided with two other vehicles at the busy intersection. After the crash, the driver was seen hastily grabbing a bag from his vehicle before fleeing the scene on foot. Notably, the driver failed to engage the handbrake before exiting the car, which caused the unattended vehicle to roll backward and collide into a nearby blue taxi. This secondary collision was also witnessed by bystanders.

One witness, a pedestrian who observed the incident at close range, described the scene as chaotic. The abandoned white car was seen slowly reversing into the taxi after its driver had already left. The witness noted that the driver did not attempt to check on the other motorists or assess the damage before fleeing.

Responding to the incident, the police issued a statement confirming that they were alerted to the accident at around 6:30pm on June 26. A spokesperson stated that the driver of one of the involved cars, along with a passenger, had left the scene prior to the arrival of the authorities. Efforts to trace both individuals are currently underway.

Two people were injured in the accident. A 68-year-old male taxi driver and a 60-year-old male driver of another car were taken to the hospital. Both were conscious at the time they were conveyed by emergency medical personnel. The extent of their injuries has not yet been disclosed publicly, but their condition was reported to be stable at the time of transport.

The incident raised concerns among residents and passersby, especially given the high traffic volume in the Tanjong Pagar area during peak hours. Witnesses expressed shock at the driver’s disregard for the safety of others and his attempt to escape accountability. The fact that the vehicle continued to move after being abandoned highlighted a serious breach of road safety and personal responsibility.

Police investigations are ongoing. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage from the area to identify and locate the fleeing driver and his passenger. In cases like this, where drivers flee the scene of an accident, serious penalties may apply upon apprehension, including charges for dangerous driving, failing to render assistance, and leaving the scene of an accident without reporting.

The incident underscores the importance of responsible driving and remaining at the scene after an accident, especially when injuries are involved. It also serves as a reminder of the dangers posed when drivers panic and abandon their vehicles, which can lead to further damage or injuries.

As of now, the police have not released the identities of those involved, and no arrests have been made. Updates on the condition of the injured parties and the results of the investigation are expected to follow.

This case has drawn public attention, both due to the location of the incident situated in the Central Business District and the reckless behaviour of the driver, who not only caused a multi-vehicle collision but exacerbated the situation by failing to properly secure his vehicle before fleeing. Law enforcement agencies are urging anyone with additional information or video evidence to come forward to assist with ongoing investigations.
