Singapore Registered BYD Car Goes Against Traffic in Malaysia

JOHOR – Authorities in Malaysia are investigating an incident involving a Singapore-registered vehicle that was caught on video travelling against the flow of traffic along the Senai-Desaru Expressway. The event occurred on Saturday, 21 June 2025, at approximately 11.31am, and was brought to public attention after a 12-second dashcam video of the scene was uploaded to Facebook by a community page named Community Roda Johor.

The incident took place around the 55km mark of the Senai-Desaru Expressway. In the video, a white car bearing Singapore registration plates is seen driving in the wrong lane directly toward oncoming vehicles. Despite being approached by the car with the dashcam, the Singapore-registered vehicle did not come to a full stop or make way, instead continuing slowly in the opposite direction, forcing other road users to manoeuvre cautiously to avoid a collision.

Kota Tinggi district police chief, Superintendent Yusof Othman, issued a public statement on 22 June 2025, confirming that the case is now under investigation. The case is being probed under Malaysia’s Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving, which can carry serious penalties if the offender is identified and convicted.

Superintendent Yusof described the driver’s behaviour as “endangering other road users” and emphasised that driving against traffic on a high-speed expressway constitutes a significant risk to the safety of all motorists. Fortunately, there were no reported accidents or injuries related to this particular incident as of the time of reporting.

The Johor police have also made an appeal to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or possess additional dashcam or mobile phone footage. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact Traffic Enforcement Officer Inspector Amirul Mustakim Mustaza at +60 17-479 3329 to assist in the ongoing investigations.

The police further issued a reminder to all road users, both domestic and foreign to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and remain vigilant at all times while driving on Malaysian roads. Superintendent Yusof stressed that obeying traffic laws is critical for the collective safety of everyone, especially on expressways where high speeds and limited reaction times can turn minor errors into life-threatening events.

Incidents involving Singapore-registered vehicles in Malaysia have gained heightened attention in recent years, especially with the increased use of dashcams and social media platforms to highlight road safety concerns. In this case, the video’s quick circulation online prompted strong reactions from netizens in both Singapore and Malaysia, with many expressing outrage at the blatant disregard for road safety.

According to road safety experts, driving against traffic, particularly on an expressway, dramatically increases the risk of head-on collisions, which are often fatal. Such offences are taken seriously by Malaysian authorities, who have ramped up enforcement efforts to ensure road discipline is maintained.

At the time of this report, the identity of the driver has not been disclosed, and it remains unclear whether the vehicle re-entered the correct lane or was later stopped by authorities. No statement has yet been made by the driver or any Singaporean official source regarding the incident.

The Johor police’s swift response and public appeal underline their ongoing commitment to road safety and the accountability of all drivers, regardless of nationality.

A Punggol Northshore BTO homeowner, who moved into his newly renovated flat in July 2024, has voiced frustration over severe water leakage issues that have left his unit unsafe and unlivable. Water has been observed seeping from an electrical powerpoint, with puddles forming on the floor and walls showing bubbling and signs of damage from moisture. The source of the leak appears to be an external wall adjacent to the master bedroom, according to assessments by the main contractor. However, the leakage has already caused significant damage to the flat's walls and paintwork, leaving the homeowner distressed. Adding to the frustration, the main contractor advised the homeowner to avoid using the affected power switches in the living room and bedroom due to the risk of a short circuit. Despite the warning, the homeowner has no choice but to turn on the light...

Crackdown on Illegal Ride-Hailing with 4 Drivers Caught in LTA Operation

In a recent operation conducted by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, four drivers were caught and had their vehicles impounded for providing illegal ride-hailing services. These unauthorized services operated both within Singapore and across the border to Malaysia, posing significant risks to passengers. The LTA has issued a stern warning to the public, advising against using such illegal services due to the lack of proper licensing and insurance, which can leave passengers vulnerable in the event of accidents. The operation underscores LTA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and regulation of ride-hailing services in Singapore. Drivers caught offering illegal ride-hailing services without a valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Licence face severe penalties, including fines of up to $3,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both. These measures are in place to deter unlicensed operators and protect passengers from potential harm. Illegal ride-hailing services oft...
