On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the Workers' Party (WP) convened to restructure its Central Executive Committee (CEC), bringing in four of its new parliamentarians to reinforce its top decision-making body. The changes were announced the following day. The new members include Members of Parliament Abdul Muhaimin Abdul Malik and Kenneth Tiong, as well as Non-Constituency Members of Parliament (NCMPs) Andre Low and Eileen Chong.
Mr Abdul Muhaimin, who was elected in Sengkang Group Representation Constituency (GRC), has been appointed as Deputy Organising Secretary. Mr Kenneth Tiong, who was elected in Aljunied GRC, has been named Deputy Treasurer. These roles mark their formal entry into the party's internal leadership structure as the WP continues its strategy of renewal and succession planning.
Meanwhile, NCMPs Andre Low and Eileen Chong have been assigned specific leadership portfolios within the party. Mr Low will serve as Deputy Head of the Media Team, while Ms Chong has been appointed President of the WP Youth Wing. Ms Chong will take over this youth leadership position from Associate Professor Jamus Lim, who will continue in his existing role as Deputy Head of Policy Research.
The new NCMPs will occupy two seats in Singapore's 15th Parliament, which begins its first session on September 5, 2025. Under the current electoral framework, NCMP seats are offered to opposition candidates who performed best among the unelected during the General Election if fewer than 12 opposition candidates are elected to Parliament.
Mr Andre Low contested Jalan Kayu Single Member Constituency (SMC) and came very close to winning, achieving the highest vote share among all losing opposition candidates. Ms Eileen Chong was part of the WP's five-member team contesting in Tampines GRC, which garnered the second-highest opposition vote share among unelected teams.
The WP also clarified that Mr Fadli Fawzi, who is the party’s fifth new parliamentarian, was already serving within the CEC as a Deputy Organising Secretary prior to this reshuffle. Therefore, no new appointment was necessary in his case.
There were no other changes to the current CEC composition. Secretary-General Pritam Singh and Chairperson Sylvia Lim continue to lead the party, having retained their leadership roles during the WP’s internal party conference held in June 2024.
The WP expressed confidence in its latest appointees and their ability to contribute meaningfully to party operations and national discourse. “The Workers’ Party is confident that our new CEC members will play a vital role, as we continue to serve Singaporeans and work for Singapore,” the party stated in its public announcement.
The WP won 10 parliamentary seats during the most recent General Election. Mr Abdul Muhaimin and Mr Tiong were both new candidates introduced during that election and successfully helped the party retain the Sengkang and Aljunied GRCs, respectively. The addition of four newly elected or appointed individuals into the top leadership body is seen as part of a broader effort by the party to integrate new faces and strengthen its organisational depth ahead of the upcoming parliamentary term.
These appointments highlight the WP’s ongoing renewal efforts and its commitment to grooming a next generation of leadership to complement its veteran figures. With Parliament resuming in September and national issues expected to take center stage, the WP’s internal reorganisation positions it to play a robust and active role in shaping policy debates and championing alternative perspectives.
