On 19 July 2025 at around 5:00pm, a cement truck overturned along Eu Tong Sen Street toward Hill Street. The Singapore Police Force confirmed the vehicle had “self-skidded” before crashing. The 52-year-old male driver was conscious and taken to Singapore General Hospital. He is assisting police with ongoing investigations.
The incident occurred in a high-traffic area during peak hours, raising concerns about heavy vehicle safety. Just months earlier, in May, over 80 heavy vehicle drivers were penalised for offences such as speeding and using mobile phones while driving. These prior infractions highlight the need for heightened enforcement and stricter safety compliance within the heavy vehicle sector.
Although no other injuries were reported, the crash caused road disruption and has sparked further investigation into how such accidents occur. Authorities are reviewing all aspects, including driver handling and vehicle condition, as they work to determine the root cause of the overturn.
