Suspect of Murdering Elderly Woman Brought Back to Sengkang Crime Scene

On the morning of July 4, 2025, a man accused of murdering a 79-year-old woman in her Housing Board flat was escorted by police back to the crime scene in Sengkang as part of an ongoing investigation. The suspect, 44-year-old Lim Yuen Li, was taken to Block 465B Fernvale Road in an unmarked black van and was seen wearing a red polo shirt, black shorts, and clear plastic slippers. His arms and legs were restrained in black cuffs. The police-led reconstruction started around 9:30am.

Lim was escorted by six plainclothes officers from the Criminal Investigation Department as well as forensics personnel. Upon arrival, they brought him to the 11th floor where the alleged murder took place. A police cordon was established along part of the corridor to maintain security and limit public access. Four uniformed officers stood guard during the entire duration of the operation.

The investigative team spent over three hours inside the unit where the crime occurred. Forensic officers were observed examining the scene and handling evidence. Equipment including a bag labeled "Biohazard waste" was seen placed outside the flat, suggesting the collection of potentially sensitive biological material for analysis.

During the process, a resident living on the floor below reportedly approached the scene and informed an officer that he had previously heard unusual noises coming from above, adding a layer of eyewitness detail to the case.

The murder is believed to have occurred sometime between 1.59am and 10.30am on June 1, 2025. According to authorities, the Singapore Police Force received a call for assistance at the residential unit at approximately 11.50am that day. Upon arrival, they discovered the elderly woman, identified as Ms Wang How Khiew, lying unresponsive within the flat. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene shortly after.

Following the discovery, Lim was arrested at the scene and later charged with murder on June 3. Under Singapore law, murder is a capital offence that carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction unless certain legal exceptions apply.

Lim is currently remanded while investigations continue. The police have not disclosed any details regarding motive or the relationship between the suspect and the victim. However, this re-enactment at the scene of the crime is a common investigative procedure used by authorities to reconstruct the timeline of events and corroborate evidence.

This case has drawn public attention due to the age of the victim and the seriousness of the charge. The murder of an elderly resident in the safety of her own home raises significant concerns about community safety and elder vulnerability in public housing estates.

No official statement has been released regarding the timeline of the trial proceedings, but it is expected that the case will be moved to the High Court for further hearings. As of July 5, Lim remains in custody.

New Punggol Northshore BTO Plagued by Water Seepage and Electrical Hazards

***Update: HDB, Maincon and Consultant has came down to the unit to check. Will update on status once we have more information. A Punggol Northshore BTO homeowner, who moved into his newly renovated flat in July 2024, has voiced frustration over severe water leakage issues that have left his unit unsafe and unlivable. Water has been observed seeping from an electrical powerpoint, with puddles forming on the floor and walls showing bubbling and signs of damage from moisture. The source of the leak appears to be an external wall adjacent to the master bedroom, according to assessments by the main contractor. However, the leakage has already caused significant damage to the flat's walls and paintwork, leaving the homeowner distressed. Adding to the frustration, the main contractor advised the homeowner to avoid using the affected power switches in the living room and bedroom due to the risk of a short circuit. Despite the warning, the homeowner has no choice but to turn on the light...

Crackdown on Illegal Ride-Hailing with 4 Drivers Caught in LTA Operation

In a recent operation conducted by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, four drivers were caught and had their vehicles impounded for providing illegal ride-hailing services. These unauthorized services operated both within Singapore and across the border to Malaysia, posing significant risks to passengers. The LTA has issued a stern warning to the public, advising against using such illegal services due to the lack of proper licensing and insurance, which can leave passengers vulnerable in the event of accidents. The operation underscores LTA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and regulation of ride-hailing services in Singapore. Drivers caught offering illegal ride-hailing services without a valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Licence face severe penalties, including fines of up to $3,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both. These measures are in place to deter unlicensed operators and protect passengers from potential harm. Illegal ride-hailing services oft...
