The disappearance of 11-year-old Muhammad Hairil Bin Muhammad Effendi from Marine Terrace on August 29 ended in tragedy when he sadly passed away the following evening. Hairil, a student at MINDS Towner Gardens School, was last seen leaving his home at Block 29 Marine Crescent around 11.05am, dressed only in grey shorts. Being a special needs child with autism, he had difficulty expressing himself, which made the search urgent.
Police issued an appeal that night, and volunteers, neighbours, and strangers joined his family in tirelessly searching Marine Terrace, East Coast Park, and nearby areas. Despite these efforts, on August 30 around 9.55pm, Hairil was found in East Coast Park waters and sadly passed away.
I am deeply saddened by this heartbreaking news and extend my heartfelt condolences to his family. Hairil was just 11, a blessing to his parents, and his passing leaves a void that words cannot fill.
