Australian Man Arrested for Theft Spree in Changi Airport Transit Area

A 45-year-old Australian national has been arrested for allegedly committing a series of thefts from retail outlets within the transit area of Changi Airport. The arrest prevented the man from leaving Singapore after a shoplifting spree that targeted multiple stores.

The incident came to light on the evening of September 2, 2025, at approximately 7:40 PM. Police were alerted after a retail assistant at a store in Terminal 2's transit area discovered a pair of sunglasses missing from a display shelf. The assistant promptly reviewed the store's closed-circuit television footage, which allegedly showed a man taking the sunglasses without making any payment.

Officers from the Airport Police Division responded swiftly. Utilizing the CCTV footage and conducting ground enquiries, they were able to establish the identity of the suspect. Within just one hour of the initial police report, the man was located and detained while he was still within the airport's transit area. This rapid action prevented his potential departure from the country.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the theft was not an isolated incident. The man was alleged to have entered a total of eight different shops within the transit area. During this spree, he reportedly took various items without payment. The stolen goods included sunglasses, bags, a water bottle, luggage, a passport case, keychains, and other accessories. All the items, with a combined estimated value of more than 2,600 Singapore dollars, were successfully recovered from the man's possession.

The Australian national is scheduled to be charged in court on September 26, 2025. He will face the charge of theft in dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code. This offence is treated with severity, and if convicted, the man faces a potential imprisonment term of up to seven years, a fine, or both.

In a statement, the Police emphasized that they take a serious view of all shop theft cases and will deal firmly with offenders. They issued a warning that offenders should not assume they can evade detection by attempting to leave the country quickly after committing such crimes. The Police also affirmed their commitment to continuing close collaboration with stakeholders to prevent and deter shop theft at Changi Airport.

However, the leakage has already caused significant damage to the flat's walls and paintwork, leaving the homeowner distressed. Adding to the frustration, the main contractor advised the homeowner to avoid using the affected power switches in the living room and bedroom due to the risk of a short circuit. Despite the warning, the homeowner has no choice but to turn on the light...

Crackdown on Illegal Ride-Hailing with 4 Drivers Caught in LTA Operation

These unauthorized services operated both within Singapore and across the border to Malaysia, posing significant risks to passengers. The LTA has issued a stern warning to the public, advising against using such illegal services due to the lack of proper licensing and insurance, which can leave passengers vulnerable in the event of accidents. The operation underscores LTA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and regulation of ride-hailing services in Singapore. Drivers caught offering illegal ride-hailing services without a valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Licence face severe penalties, including fines of up to $3,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both. These measures are in place to deter unlicensed operators and protect passengers from potential harm. Illegal ride-hailing services oft...
