Influencer Sentenced to Electronic Tag for Don Don Donki Theft

A 30-year-old social media influencer has been sentenced for stealing items from a supermarket. Genie Yamaguchi was issued a Day Reporting Order on September 23, which includes a requirement to wear an electronic tag and adhere to a strict nightly curfew.

Yamaguchi, who operates a preserved flower service and a beauty aesthetics clinic, had previously pleaded guilty to one charge of theft. The incident occurred in the early hours of August 25, 2024, at the Don Don Donki supermarket located in Orchard Central. Court documents detailed that Yamaguchi and a friend, Lee Suet Keay Cheryl, were at the supermarket around 2:30 AM.

The two individuals placed 27 items into a shopping cart and subsequently left the store without making any payment. The stolen goods included a variety of products such as beauty items, bags, and food, with a total value of 628.90 Singapore dollars. The theft was witnessed by a supermarket staff member, who immediately reported the incident to his manager. The authorities were alerted, and the entire event was captured by the store's security camera system.

Yamaguchi was later arrested at her residence on September 3, 2024. During earlier court proceedings, her lawyer stated that Yamaguchi had fully compensated the supermarket for the cost of the stolen items. The prosecution acknowledged that she had no prior criminal record and subsequently requested an assessment to determine her suitability for a Day Reporting Order as an alternative to a jail term or fine.

A Day Reporting Order is a community-based sentence that requires offenders to report regularly to a day reporting center for supervision and rehabilitation programs. As part of this specific order, which will last for three months, Yamaguchi must wear an electronic monitoring tag. She is required to remain indoors at her residence every day from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, effectively placing her under a nightly curfew.

In the sentencing hearing on September 23, her legal representative expressed that Yamaguchi was deeply sorry for her actions and assured the court that she would not re-offend. The sentence aims to rehabilitate the offender while imposing restrictions that serve as a consequence for the criminal act.

A Punggol Northshore BTO homeowner, who moved into his newly renovated flat in July 2024, has voiced frustration over severe water leakage issues that have left his unit unsafe and unlivable. Water has been observed seeping from an electrical powerpoint, with puddles forming on the floor and walls showing bubbling and signs of damage from moisture. The source of the leak appears to be an external wall adjacent to the master bedroom, according to assessments by the main contractor. However, the leakage has already caused significant damage to the flat's walls and paintwork, leaving the homeowner distressed. Adding to the frustration, the main contractor advised the homeowner to avoid using the affected power switches in the living room and bedroom due to the risk of a short circuit. Despite the warning, the homeowner has no choice but to turn on the light...

Crackdown on Illegal Ride-Hailing with 4 Drivers Caught in LTA Operation

In a recent operation conducted by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, four drivers were caught and had their vehicles impounded for providing illegal ride-hailing services. These unauthorized services operated both within Singapore and across the border to Malaysia, posing significant risks to passengers. The LTA has issued a stern warning to the public, advising against using such illegal services due to the lack of proper licensing and insurance, which can leave passengers vulnerable in the event of accidents. The operation underscores LTA’s commitment to ensuring the safety and regulation of ride-hailing services in Singapore. Drivers caught offering illegal ride-hailing services without a valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Licence face severe penalties, including fines of up to $3,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both. These measures are in place to deter unlicensed operators and protect passengers from potential harm. Illegal ride-hailing services oft...
