A 41-year-old man was taken into custody by Singapore police after a violent struggle during an arrest that uncovered a series of alleged offences. The incident began on the morning of September 20, when police were alerted to a man reported to be behaving suspiciously along Ubi Avenue 3.
Officers arrived at the scene at approximately 11:30 AM and found the man sitting on the road next to his car. When the police approached him to conduct a check, the man verbally provided them with a false identity in an attempt to avoid detection. The officers proceeded to conduct further checks on the individual, which led to a significant discovery.
During the search, the police found substances that are suspected to be controlled drugs. They also discovered drug paraphernalia, an electronic vaporiser, which is a prohibited item in Singapore, and a bank card that did not bear the man's name. Upon establishing the man's true identity through police databases, it was revealed that he was also a wanted individual by the Central Narcotics Bureau.
The situation escalated when the officers moved to arrest him. The man allegedly put up a physical struggle against the arresting officers. During this resistance, he is accused of pushing the officers and attempting to bite them. The police stated that it became necessary for them to use appropriate force to subdue and restrain the individual to ensure the safety of the officers and complete the arrest.
The man was subsequently arrested for multiple serious offences. The charges include using criminal force against a public servant, which refers to the alleged pushing and attempted biting of the police officers. He was also arrested for providing false particulars to the police, for the suspected fraudulent possession of property related to the bank card not in his name, and for a range of suspected drug-related offences uncovered during the check.
The case has been referred to the relevant authorities for further action. The suspected drug-related offences have been handed over to the Central Narcotics Bureau for their investigation. The discovery of the electronic vaporiser will be referred to the Health Sciences Authority, which enforces the ban on such devices. The police have confirmed that investigations into the full scope of the incident are currently ongoing.
